So what? Outside of football, basketball, and baseball to an extent, no one cares about any college sports. I wish we would drop some programs that do nothing but drain our budget every year.

They had a couple decent years a couple years a go but the last time they were in the Big East they couldn't win a game and were given the boot. Temple is one of the worst football programs going.

Temple is 181-297-3 since 1970
Temple is 114-264 since 1980
Temple is 79-196 since 1990
Temple is 57-108 since 2000

Since 1970 the have posted 11 winning seasons.
1970: 7-3
1971: 6-2
1972: 5-4
1973: 8-2
1978: 7-3
1979: 10-2 (Won Garden State Bowl over Cal)
1984: 6-5
2009: 9-4 (Lost Eagle Bank Bowl to UCLA)
2010: 8-4
2011: 9-4 (Won New Mexico Bowl over Wyoming)

"Temple joined the Big East Conference in 1991, but had difficulty competing against teams with better facilities and bigger budgets. The Owls would not win a conference game until 1995, and would only win 16 conference games during their 14-year run in the league. Temple won as many as three league games only once (1997: 3-8, 3-4 Big East) and went winless in league play six times. Overall, they had a 14-80 record against Big East foes." -Wikipedia

"The Owls were a football-only member of the Big East Conference from 1991 until 2004. Temple was forced out of the league due to poor attendance averages, non-competitiveness, and a lack of commitment to the football program from university officials." -Wikipedia

Bottom line is Temple football cannot comepte on a consistent basis on the FBS level.

Why do you care?

I don't necessarily. I was just adding to how bad they are. I took all of 5 minutes to look that up. Temple fans came on here back duirng fall camp running their mouths about us. That makes me care about 20-25% no more. There are about 10-15 teams that should really consider dropping out of FBS. If you have to cut other sports to keep Temple football afloat it should really be considered.

You have backwards...Temple football kept them afloat...at 20,000 they bring more fans to one game than all Olympic sports combined.

Most FBS schools have around 16-19 sports...Temple going down to 17 just isn't "earth-shattering"

And oh no! Temple fans are proud of their school and act like fans (Fanatics) whatever shall you do?

By your logic, Vandy and Duke should drop football too.

Of those 4, 3 would probably have to be women's in order to balance out the scholarships.

It's pretty unfortunate for the athletes. I had a friend who got an athletic scholarship from a school that dropped his sport his freshman year. They gave no indication during the recruiting process that this might happen. He was very smart and could have gone to a better school, but wanted to play at the highest level possible. They took away his scholarship because there was no program. They did eventually give in and allowed him to pay in state tuition, although they originally were going to force him to pay out of state. Still pretty bad

Temple is honoring everyone's scholarship and allowing them to transfer to any school without restrictions.

RE: OT: Temple drops 7 sports in AAC....
I think everyone is missing the 900 pound gorilla in the room, and that's the Progrosis Negative for AAC football in the coming years.

The school has acceted that the former Big East league has already been stripped of its marquee football programs, its BCS autobid, and even its name.

What Temple is not prepared for is the coming storm: The Big 12 expansion.

Texas Longhorn mouthpiece Chip Brown, the same fellow who leaked the forced Mack Brown resignation days before the school or the coach would admit its possible, has stated that there is pressure on the Big 12 presidents by both their league television contracts and the other Power Five conferences to expand to 14. The neworks want more markets, WVU needs at least one regional rival, and the other P5 leagues are tired of equal distribution with a 10 school league. Expansion could start as ealy as Spring 2014.

Chip has stated only one school in particular as certain: a western school with a national following that was seriously considered during the las expansion round, BYU, and that the other three would be from the east. He also admitted that the former ACC targets were now off the table due to buy-out contracts.

Who would be that regional rival for WVU? What two other non-P5 schools offer the Big 12 a new high population state, media markets, BCS quality football, and exposure in fertile recruiting regions.

Those three schools will amost certainly come from the AAC, and there are no programs in the MAC or the CUSA that could adequately backfill their void for Temple or the remainder of the AAC.

This was the last year with Louisville and Rutgers. If Temple football is reportedly hemorrhaging cash now, just wait until the remaining big name rivals and the television contracts are gone.
