And even better, coach the kid in his final college game.
Make it happen.
Helluva plan!!! Release Reagan to go on to KU for personal reasons and to get into recruiting, that frees up the slot.
Yeah, interim OC sounds pretty good.
That's a great thought...
Fun to think about, but I want continuity for the bowl game. besides, why should we help out KU recruiting?
After today, I would be more than happy if Reagan finishes out his tenure here at the bowl game. I haven't heard officially that he's leaving yet.
IF we have an opening, I think we ought to try and persuade Gary Kubiak to join the staff. If he wants to hang out with the coaches and team leading up to the game (assuming they would extend an invitation) that would be great.
But Reagan has coached all year, and has earned the right to coach the team in this bowl. His willingness and desire to do so are commendable, IF he truly has an offer on the table for much more money than he can earn here.
(EDIT) - just got back from the game and started with the bottom thread. I see where Reagan may be gone in another thread. If that's the case, maybe Kubiak should be the interim.

RE: OT: Gary Kubiak fired
A season ticket holder from the beginning of the Texans pointed out to me that Schaub never got back to what he was before his injury a couple of years ago. Also, much of the problem is due to the players the Texans did not sign to get under the salary cap with Schaub's increased pay.

It's still not official that we have an opening. But . . .
1. Kubiak was the OC for a couple of Super Bowl winners at Denver, IIRC.
2. He recently won two division championships with Matt Schaub as the QB. It could be argued that with the right surrounding cast (including a great RB) he got the most possible out of Schaub those 2 years. Schaub has played worse this year, and some of that is on him, but not all of it. And the rest of the team has contributed to the debacle significantly as well.
3. If Rice continues to have a good running game, and our supporting cast was good (i.e., defense and OL) having a QB who may not be Elway, but who could be taught to make good decisions may be the key to success.
I'm not sure that QB has been the key to our success this year, not that we haven't had generally good play at that position.
That's not to say that Kubiak would come if we have an OC offer to make, or that he would be the best choice. But I suspect he would be better that a lot / most choices we could make. People bring up Applewhite a lot. But Clement and Dillard and company did better in 2008 without him than they did in 2006. I would judge Applewhite more by what he's done lately than what he did in 2006.
Most here didn't seem to like our 2008 OC, yet that team did better offensively than Applewhite's here in 2006. And he has no Super Bowl to point to.

There is no question Schaub's contract had a negative impact on the Texans this year. A lot of talent was lost to free agency. And, that is why management should be out as well as Kubiak. Between injuries and free agency losses, this was a much more difficult season than anyone realized.
