Boise State is a traditional school in that part of the world, much like Gonzaga in basketball. Coaching change won't mean that much

I don't understand it. He was in on a bunch of "BIG" jobs and didn't take them. What happened?

Did he take his staff with him or are they staying in Boise?

Programs can survive if they have good assitants and they keep the staff...But if they pull the entire staff to the new program they are in trouble.

That probably will not make a difference unless they hire the new head coach from the current staff. A new coach will almost certainly bring in an entirely new staff, "his guys", regardless of whether Peterson takes his staff with him or not. An outside hire may keep one or two of the current staff but probably not enough to survive on them alone.

Boise got progressively better each time they changed coaches from Houston Nutt to now. I bet someone on that staff stays and keeps that program going.

But were they getting better because of better coaches, better reputation, and better players or because they had one person who stayed for all of the coaching changes playing the Wizard of Oz?

Great observation. They made their rise with Hankins, he was the coach when they played Lville in that great Liberty Bowl game, then Hankins tanked at Colorado.

The existing Off Coordinator has been there for a while, he might want to stay if he gets the chance.

Beat me to it..they are/were on their 3rd coach to have success. Before that they had decades of success in Div 1 AA.

It's been a pretty good year for the non-power conferences, having Top 25 teams. Of course, Northern Illinois lost to Bowling Green in the MAC championship last night to spoil their undefeated season and knock down their #14 ranking. A week or two ago, Fresno State lost to San Jose State to spoil their undefeated season. Would've been nice to have had 2 BCS busters.
