Wrestling Team
We get to see them for the first time Saturday at noon. Been looking forward to seeing Miller especially. They have three dual meets in December at home. Besides tomorrow they wrestle Monday 12/16 at 7 pm and Thursday 12/19 at 7 pm. Check the schedule before you go as I am known to screw up dates and times once in awhile. Anyway while the basketball team is not playing come see some wrestling.

RE: Wrestling Team
Forgot to mention the opponents are Buffalo, Old Dominion ( a new wrestling member of the MAC, tournament only this year but totally starting next year) and The Ohio State University. Typically there are more Buckeye fans than Kent fans so if you can only go to one make it that one.

RE: Wrestling Team
Which wrestlers do we expect to have a chance to make it to Nationals?

RE: Wrestling Team
I'm hoping Ian Miller, Tyler Small, DePalma, Wheeler, Marsh and McGuire.

Baxter at 197 also has a shot.

RE: Wrestling Team
Nice win tonight. I left before the HW's were done but we were up 29-5 at that point. We had won 7 of 9 with a major from Tyler Buckwater and a pin at 197 by Baxter. We lost at 125 and at 141. Tyler Small's loss was strange. Lost 5-0 but rode his top ten opponent the whole third period just missing a riding point by a few seconds. He just could not score. One entertaining item was the ejection of the Old Dominion coach. He said something fairly quietly and the ref tossed him immediately. That penalized the team two points.

Bring on #7Ohio St. They lost big to #2Penn st. Sunday. Also their national champ Steiber got upset by a true freshman. They should be in a bad mood. It won't be easy Thursday. The normal $5 tickets are $10 for Thursday so at least we will take some OSU money.

RE: Wrestling Team
Retherford for Penn State is a stud, and even though he's only a true freshman now, they fully expect him to compete for several national titles before he's done. He's won at the national and international level in junior events and now with Cael's tutoring he will be a beast.

He looked as good as you describe. Steiber could not get anything going.

KSU Wrestling Team Stats thus far by weight class: http://kentstatesports.com/documents/201...WStats.pdf

I will be @ the MAC Center to watch KSU vs OSU. Looking forward to seeing the team live.

KSU is really weak @ 125lbs and HWT and are obviously missing the 125lb true freshmen from CA & the HWT who might become eligible for Spring Semester.

RE: Wrestling Team
Thanks for the stats! 125 and 285 are definitely our weakest classes. 165 was also a concern, until the recent return of Buckwalter. Vollant wasn't terrible, but Buckwalter will be an improvement. At 125, Gray and Vinas are struggling and one of them certainly needs to step it up. However, I'm not sure that the CA recruit would do substantially better this year. In the long run, he would provide more firepower, but I didn't envision him as dynamic as Miller or Small in their true, freshman seasons. Likewise, the recruit at 285 doesn't possess high school credentials that would ensure a better performance than our current heavyweight, who already has a year of college experience. Also, keep in mind that Lytle just wrestled 4 or 5 matches at the CSU open two days before the ODU match.

the kid won states as a Freshman, upset as a Sophomore and then transferred and ruled ineligible as Junior, but came back and won states as a Senior. While pleading his transfer case with the PIAA he claimed he was being bullied in school so his family had to move. Wrestling Junior events he won National titles and even a world title, but he's getting bullied?

RE: Wrestling Team
Lost 27-6 tonight. I didn't stay for heavyweight but of the other six losses only two didn't go down to the final 20 seconds or so. Vinas got routed at 125(technical fall) and Steiber beat up on Tyler Small although again Small rode him the whole third period but still lost 9-0. Miller won by seven just missing a major. Buckwater won also.McGuire lost in overtime. He got too high trying to turn DiJulius and got reversed in the first 30 second OT and then just missed returning the favor in the second OT. Wheeler gave up very late takedowns in both the second and third period and lost 11-10. Marsh and DePalma also lost near the end of the third. Even at 197 it took a takedown with about 15 seconds by #4 Heflin to win at 197. The score was deceiving but nothing much we can do. I will have to say I would be surprised if OSU is #9 at the end of the season.
