If anything, I always found the opposite to be true. Hiring away someone from an organization doesn't really build good relations. Hiring someone that an organization forced to resign, doesn't really show the two organizations are working hand in hand.

If anything, if WVU ever had a shot (which I don't think they do) then this would actually weaken their cause.

None the less, I knew someone would make the above comment in this thread.

The same goes for folks that think Texas hiring the AD away from Arizona State means Texas is going out west. Folks around these parts are none too happy about the situation.

no offense but considering that he made fun of louisville & kentucky academics im very surprised that he ended up at a school thats even lower in the academic rankings than those two.

John Schuerholz continued a great relationship with the Kansas City Royals after departing for Atlanta.

But baseball isn’t the cutthroat sport that football is.

Keep in mind this is just an interim posistion.
If he can keep his opinions to himself for awhile I don't see what the problem would be with this hire.
He certainly has been at many fine institutions over his career.

Maryland hired Loh from Iowa and will be in the B1G in a few months. I'm not saying this is the case for WV. Just that it does happen.

RE: Gordon Gee
Gee is pond scum.

Presidents said the process of securing funding in the past has been extremely contentious. “It was really hand-to-hand combat,” Gee said. “There were times when the University of Cincinnati would want something and I would try my hardest to make sure they didn’t get it, even if I wasn’t going to get it either. It was not one of my greater moments as a university president.

“You know Penn State just abhors Pitt. It would be the same way. Even though we love Cincinnati as a city, we want it to be an Ohio State city. They’d have to take Gene out and shoot him to let Cincinnati into the Big Ten. There are some things that we just would not to. And that’s the way that Penn State also feels about Pitt.”

Gee was president of WVU back in the 1980s and it was the first university that he led, so it's not a complete shocker on that basis. Notwithstanding the ignorant comments about Catholics, Gee has long been considered a megastar (if not the single biggest star) in academic leadership circles - he is to university president positions as Bill Parcells was to NFL coaching positions (with similarly short tenures because he knows how to turn things around quickly but then burns people out).

I would guess that "loose lips" Gee isn't the favorite son amongst his former conference peers.

Bingo. That and Maryland has been on the Big Ten's list for quite some time. West Virginia, not so much.

Total speculation and conspiracy theory on my part here. I mean this is "the dude" type reasoning here, but, this thread is about WVU so I feel it is within the parameters.

What if WVU hired Gee in order to get Cincinnati into the Big 12?

Gee is a superstar University President and would immediately be respected by other Big 12 Presidents. He could give them insight into what is "really" going on with the B1G and how things are going to shake down. He might even let them have his way.

A thriving and vibrant UC is Ohio State's worst nightmare. Gee as much has said so.

Now, would a UC in the ACC be more harmful to Ohio State/B1G or would a UC in the Big 12 be more harmful to Ohio State/B1G?

WVU wants a travel partner in the worst way and Gee still works for Ohio State.

Could this be a way for him to vindicate himself?

Again, total speculation, but some of the pieces could fit together.

If true, would it be in the best interest of Cincinnati to accept a Big 12 invite in the not to distant future or hang on for a possible ACC invite down the road?
