Like I said. All of these schools are all too good to associate with each other.

Makes too much sense from a cost and rivalry perspective. Drop Idaho for Texas St.

CUSA would rather continue to raid the Belt and lead to more FCS move ups than get out a map and use common sense.

We do fairly well vs Rice in baseball (in recent hostory). Usually a split. Last year we lost both games by 1 run each

Here's the idea:

Create a conference with a footprint that covers a significant portion of the United States from the mid-Atlantic southward to Florida and westward to Texas

Create four distinct divisions within the super conference each promoting traditional in-state and regional rivalries with the added goal of reducing team and fan travel expenses while increasing fan interest and participation

All conference members are encouraged to schedule as many OOC games as possible against regional P-5 teams

Each year each division member is required to play at least 7 conference games, with at least 5 of those being against fellow division members

Each division crowns a champion based on total conference won-loss record with a structured tie-breaking system in place

A total of 3 playoff games (two rounds) decide the overall conference champion

Inter-division opponents for the playoffs are selected by drawing as are host sites

The championship game site is also selected by drawing once the two finalists have advanced

Mid-Atlantic Division
Marshall
Old Dominion
UNC-Charlotte
Middle Tennessee State University
Western Kentucky University
Appalachian State University

Southeast Division
Georgia State University
Georgia Southern
Florida Atlantic University
Florida International University

Deep South Division

Southwest Division
University of Texas-San Antonio
Texas State University
Rice University
University of North Texas
University of Idaho
New Mexico State University

That's the craziest proposed conference I've ever seen. I give you an A+ for creativity but an F for reality.

I'll take the A+ and ignore the F.04-cheers

The thread got moved next door but before it did the responses were hilarious.

"we don't need you or your silly stinkin' conference"....."if we wanted to play you guys, we'd have invited you"....etc etc etc

The same conference who regularly robs the Belt and now looks more like the Belt than the Belt doesn't need the stinkin' Belt.03-lmfao

Actually methanus, one poster said that a super conference might just be the future. He laid it all out in his comments but since your mind has been closed since she you squeezed through the tunnel of love, I won't expect anything other than the usual insipid responses you author.

Man, you certainly can't try to match your razor sharp wit.

If you think a conference like this has any possibility of forming in the future, you've deluded yourself.

I have never understood the desire to create hypothetical super conferences. Especially ones that no one would watch.

Several things to come to mind here mathenis.

First and foremost is that this is a forum for fans who wish to get to together and talk about football and all topics related.

Since there are constant complaints here about the larger conferences boxing out the smaller ones in any number of ways, my thread was merely food for thought. No where did I say this was likely to happen but I will say that in some form, it could happen in the future. Who knows? A few years ago few predicted what the college football landscape looks like today.

When I joined here I read a thread on conference realignment in the SEC forum that was started back in 2004. I recall one poster saying something roughly similar to what you said above.....you're deluding yourself if you think Texas A&M will ever be part of the SEC. Well?

On the C-USA forum, here's what one Houston poster said re my thread:

I don't think all those teams will be involved, but I do think that ultra big super conferences will be the future model for the most successful non-AQ conferences. It may even be what allows them to become AQ in a larger playoff system. Think of the current 5 power conferences along with 2 or 3 G5 super conferences in a 12 team playoff. Say a G5 East, Midwest, and Western conference---each with about 20 members. That could give you a 12 team playoff with every conference being AQ---plus 4 at large slots. I know 4 at-large slots is a little small, but the whole playoff is only 4 slots right now.

Now, that guy was a poster who took a few minutes, thought about the subject, and added something of value to the conversation. I appreciated his comments.

I've seen your comments mathenis in any number of threads here and recall very few that actually added anything of substance. Most were just uncalled-for insults. Now, friendly jabs at opposing fans are not only expected, but welcomed at a site like this. But would it really hurt you to try to say something intelligent or thoughtful every once in a while, or try to participate in a conversation?

That's what I was thinking. TSU takes the place of Idaho!

RE: I've created the C-USA/Sun Belt Football Super Conference
Not knocking the creative juices from the super conference, I just don't understand the impetus for most of these schools to agree with it.

Take, for example, the "Southwest division" which is pretty much just Texas and New Mexico. Why would the Texas teams want to do that? It would limit their exposure to both the best recruiting state, and arguably the worst recruiting state.

Then doing a playoff for the league champion... Why do that? Can you even do that? You're adding more games to decide who might get a game in the playoffs. That's a LOT of games.

Plus, the whole television contract... that's a LOT of mouths to feed off of it. The television contract would really need to be up there to make it cost effective.

Finally, the NCAA money. By conglomerating those two conferences, you have REALLY diluted the payout.

In general, I like the geographically compact leagues. But making them that compact (even as "pods") would really kill any national interest.

RE: I've created the C-USA/Sun Belt Football Super Conference
If you look at how the conference realignment took place over the last 5 years there has been no wholesale mergers....

Teams have been invited individually.

Over on the Realignment board posters have been proposing these Mega Conferences for years.

They will not happen......For the same reason the proposed CUSA and MWC merger never happened.

1. Each Conference has a auto bid to ncaa championships.
When they asked the NCAA if two conferences merged
would they have 2 bids.... NCAA Said NO

2. FBS Football Payout is limited at 12 teams x 1 million...
So each conference is capped at 12 million from the new
college playoff share...

So you can see there is no advantage in going large.

Big disadvantages - Less money per school and less teams that
make the post season in all sports, which results in less money from basketball shares...
