RE: What's the deal on the stadium?

Fix the fire marshall problem, fix the restrooms, fix the concessions, etc and open that place up and get people onto the ETSU campus. From 1978 until 2003, it was used for basketball and football -- on game days and for practice. Well, football game days will be no more in the Dome. So, what's the problem now with using it for both basketball games and football practice, again? It is not that bad of a basketball arena. All the complaining is not justified. The place is impressive in a number of ways -- build on them. Of course a brand new 8,400 seat convocation center would be nice, but until then stay in the Dome. Focus on building a championship basketball program(s), and they will come no matter where the games are played. Keep all the sports on campus. Like I've said before, I've never had a bad seat for a basketball game in the Dome.
Actually I am not sure that it is paid for. I think I remember reading an article about 5 years ago about how they just keep refinancing the loan on the thing.

I don't know the status of its financing, but I do know that ETSU has no control over how the state issues or manages Tennessee's bond financing structure. Tennessee public universities and community colleges do not issue their own bonds, they are issued as part of a state bond issue.

Is there any inside news about the stadium? It is just TOO quiet right now. I would love to hear the announcement soon!

What do you want to know?
JC Press had three rendering of football complexes they had visited. They are waiting on the recommendations from the company that was hired to decide what campus location would be the best. They are also waiting on the projected cost of each location. There are many many considerations to be made on the location.
Even if they had the info, I doubt they would release anything until basketball finishes their season.
Remember, the Fine Arts building is the first priority and that fund drive has not been completed

I am totally aware of the situation and all the priorities. It is just that many of us are anxious as to if a decision has been made. What we do not want is a series of delays where the 2016 opening is missed.

RE: What's the deal on the stadium?
i don't think that the season opening two years and and six months from now is a worry. What is a worry is that the Dome, parking garage, softball stadium, soccer stadium and the baseball stadium have had many problems because of not doing due diligence. ETSU has only one shot at building a football stadium and making mistakes in design or site selection can not happen.
I too want to see it get started but not at the expense of making mistakes that we will have to live with forever. There will no going back to the state and asking for money to correct problems.

The good news BucGal is that the folks that crapped the bed on the soccer, softball and baseball stadiums are no longer there.
I'm with ya on the due diligence thing. Someone seriously from ETSU needs to hit MegaMillions tonight. No seriously. Either that or pick the perfect bracket.

Guess there is no inside news about the stadium. I just thought somebody might have the inside scoop. Due diligence is imperative to all major projects.
