I'm not to the long-distance tournament travel scene. Does UAB typically get a block of rooms for fans to get?

I can't imagine they're booked. They probably have it locked out for the schools to request a # of rooms.
A couple days ago they had every type room available

Is it just me? Is anybody else able to queue any rooms up?

Remember. Mike Davis didn't like scheduling these.

He really was such a wimp in so many ways.

We did schedule us for Daytona. Look how that turned out.

And we were scheduled for Puerto Eico, but we pulled out apparently because Indiana was in the field.

Daytona was a disaster in more ways than one.

I just talked to a guy that went thus year to watch Iowa play. He said the university used a travel agent that put together packages that included flights/rooms/tickets. I assume that each participating university would do the same thing

Did you get any idea of what that cost?

The resort may have a 4 or 5 day minimum. And bring your checkbook. A buddy of mine said the breakfast buffet is $25 a head, and it goes up from there.

I believe there is a minimum stay Phil. Also, although it's not convenient, you could leave the resort to eat. Atlantis itself is by no means cheap though.

This year packages were offered to fans of participating schools that included 50% rooms. I don't rememeber all the details, but that was one fact that stuck out regarding the official packages.

Any idea when those became available for the schools? I guess I should wait to pull the trigger then.

RE: 2014 Battle of Atlantis: It's Official!
Quote:How good is the eight-team field for next year’s Battle 4 Atlantis tournament on Paradise Island in the Bahamas? The “worst” team involved just beat another participant, and that team gave the defending national champion Louisville Cardinals their only loss to date. Thanks, transitive property. Now back to basketball.

The Battle 4 Atlantis tournament will run from November 26-28 next year — Thanksgiving is the 27th — and features four teams that are currently ranked: the No. 8 Wisconsin Badgers, No. 12 Florida Gators, No. 17 UCLA Bruins and No. 25 North Carolina Tar Heels. The other four teams currently have a combined record of 22-7, and all four of those teams could easily be ranked this season. The Oklahoma Sooners are 6-1, Georgetown Hoyas are 5-2, Butler Bulldogs are 5-2, and aforementioned “worst team” UAB Blazers are 6-2 and fresh off a home victory over North Carolina.

The Battle 4 Atlantis tournament has gathered some of college basketball’s old money and new money to create a group that boasts 15 Final Four berths since 2000 — spread between seven of the teams — and the eighth team, those pesky Blazers, has made four NCAA Tournaments since 2004, when they upset the No. 1 overall seed Kentucky Wildcats to make the Sweet Sixteen.

Xavier posted their package on April 17, 2013; Iowa on May 6, 2013; Wake Forest on June 5, 2013. So , I would guess sometime just after the Final Four, but knowing how slow UAB moves it could be as late as early summer.

I found this note online: Jul 29, 2013 - Battle 4 Atlantis ticket and travel packages can be booked by calling 1-800-Atlantis...

You might find out more info on time-frames from that toll-free number.

Another reminder for anyone thinking about going...you will need a Passport.

Here is a link to the State Department website describing the process.

http://travel.state.gov/passport/

Keep in mind you will need the Passport book if traveling to The Bahamas by air. The less expensive Passport Card is only valid for ground entries (boat) and border crossings within the United States, Mexico, Canada and the Carribbean.

What Jay said about timeline is about what he said. I didn't ask about price, and being that we're currently in a room full of people, I don't want to bring it up, but I will the next time I get a chance.
He did say that as far as food, it's not just Atlantis that's expensive, it's all of Nassau. They actually took PB&J, cereal, other small things. They went off the resort and got 2 loaves of bread and a gallon of milk for $23

When anyone finds anything definite about prices/times when packages will be available/etc. PLEASE post it on here.

I would love to go to this if at all possible.
