Its all in fun. It creates good conversation.

not sure i would call it "good conversation"....

As Cuban said you can go on UCF's Rival board and find the same one sided, objectivity free posts. Why would you expect anything different?

I think the general thought on the Bullspen forum is that basically USF and UCF played a dead even game at UCF's stadium (stats were basically dead even), therefore since USF isn't that great, UCF isn't that great. I don't really buy that. UCF has an impressive record, and the fact is...they won, regardless of how it happened. Credit where credit is due.

Dead even except for turnovers. I think it says something when you can turn the ball over 5 times and still win.

The part I find funny is how they talk about this rich history they have compared to UCF. USF has some nice individual wins over the years, but no great seasons or conference championships. UCF has already finished a season ranked which USF has never done.

You're right. On the turnovers, I think we can agree USF has a very good defense (although a pathetic, but slightly improving offense), so that had something to do with it. USF did finish 2007 regular season ranked #21 in the BCS and in the other polls...but then lost to Oregon in the Sun bowl. USF does have solid history of big early season OOC wins and rankings, but to date has yet been able to maintain that. Hopefully Taggart can recitfy that. Would like to see both USF and UCF in top 15 heading into last game of season for a rivalry game.

I agree that USF has a very good defense. I expected a close game for that reason.

EDIT: I know USF finished 2007 ranked in the BCS, but those aren't the final rankings. They are used to setup the BCS bowls. If they counted as a final ranking Notre Dame would've won the National Championship last year.

Great point...and while most know that...its pretty obvious (based on comments all year long) that some don't. (i.e. they think final BCS rankings are done after all bowl games are finished but final BCS rankings only rank team thru 1st week of Dec after Championship Game Weekend).

Actually... most fans understand this but have in reality just tried to forget the beat down we received during Oregon's coming out party as a nationally relevant program in El Paso. That was a great trip....and USF took a LOT of fans across the country for that game.

However, what is not widely known is that USF finished in the final BCS Top 25 in 2002. Of course this was under the original BCS formula and you have to dig to find the Top25 teams b/c they only used to release the Top 15 schools...but it was a Top25 finish nonetheless. I guess the irony that year was that despite our remarkable 9-2 finish as a then 6 year old program we didn't get a chance to go to a bowl game due to no conference affiliation. This was a bitter pill to swallow back then b/c UAB, USM and Memphis (State) blocked our admission in 2001 as orginally agreed upon by C-USA presidents and assurances from Mike Slive.

Back then....as UCF fans painfully know as well....no conference affiliation meant no bowl games. The BCS was not a great system...but it should be remembered as being a vast improvement over the old system.

Need proof: you guys are going to a BCS Bowl....argh %$% YOU Skip Holtz!
