50-60k paper pom-poms in the rain would make for a seriously messed up job for the cleaning crew if it rains, as expected. But there are a number of plastic alternatives like the inflated sticks banged together, etc.

Heard a gallery furniture sponsored ad on the radio as I was driving home! Also love that the Texas Brass Band will be there. Those guys are great. Students seem to be genuinely excited about this one. Hope the weather doesn't keep them away...

I heard the same ad. They play it all day on 1560. It's good.

Yeah, thundersticks would be better. I think I still have a pair from a previous game giveaway.

Could thundersticks be construed as noisemakers? Prohibited!

My answer would not be appropriate for a reputable college sports fan site.

Apparently ticket sales started out great early in the week, but the weather forecast has slowed things down dramatically.

RE: Interest level in game? Ticket sales? Any info?
Makes sense. For the hardcore folks here, people promoting game, etc. of course you will be there and want folks there but for average/casual fan..would you rather watch the game w/ replays, angles, etc. in 70 degrees or would you rather sit in 40 degrees w/ likely cold rain and have to sit through a bunch of TV time-outs, early kick, traffic, parking, etc? Hope I'm wrong..but expect crowd similar to Tulane on Saturday.
Explains rationale of 'blackouts' to force people to the game if watching on TV was not a viable option. Bet there would be closer to 40K if game was blacked out (and in-person is only option) but that has to be offset by more than 200K locally in H-Town watching on TV (assuming a 1.0 rating in Houston and a .5 rating nationally)... So net/net...better for TV as Rice is getting more local exposure although I'm sure we all will get sick of listening to Herd nation bitching about the empty seats (as people watch from cover of concourse) and how that would never happen if game were at the Joan.

As of now,
National Weather Service forecast for Houston at 11 A.M. CST, Saturday, December 7: temperature 37 degrees F, wind chill factor 29 degrees F, 30% chance of rain.
National Weather Service Forecast for Huntington at 12 noon EST, Saturday, December 7: temperature 33 degrees F, wind chill factor 27 degrees F, 10% chance of snow.
Which conditions would you consider to be better for watching a football game?
I should also note that the forecast for Huntington calls sleet and snow likely for the night before....

For many years, the swim team was the cleaning crew, cleaning the stadium on Sundays to help fund holiday training. Anyone know if they are still doing that?

I had always found Houston to be a fair weather sports town, but never considered it to be in the literal sense.
Hopefully there will be some cheap beer available to attract a hearty student turnout.
