Why don't you ask some XU fans if they want to move downtown? NOT ....we did not spend a billion dollars in the area
to take one of our biggest draws downtown! Please let it go.... This is a subject that does not need discussion on Beat u Of L week and when our BBAll team is undefeated...Enjoy the times!
Where do you get the data about 20k students living within a mile of campus?

While I haven't seen the actual report, I have seen UC publications state that the Board of Regents report shows that only 40% of the student population commutes from outside a 1 mile radius. So roughly 60% of the main campus enrollment of around 33K is pretty darn close to 20K.
On campus housing accounts for 4,700 and Dan Schimberg probably has twice that by himself.

Yes, I believe they actually now say UC has about 80% or more of full time students living in area total reversal from the 80's where about 10% lived in area or on campus...Just take a drive around and look at the massive student housing put up in the last 5 years...From the Zoo area to Ludlow by Cactus Pear to McMillan by 71 to the old FRiars Club, to Calhoun to Clifton Ave it reaches far and wide a drive thru Corryville will startle you there is a new student building on nearly every block from the hospital to Krogers and all the back streets. Check out the new hole behind Martinos! This will be an enormous increase.

I'd like to see those publications, are the available online anywhere? I work at UC and we get requests for this kind of data reasonably often. The numbers we get never come close to 20k students living in the local area (the most I've seen is 10k). Considering how many distance learning students we have, 60% of our population coming from within 1 mile would be very impressive.

There was always a number living in Hyde Park and Norwood too. I believe this is only a couple miles away.

If we have 20K living within a mile of campus, it would be nice if we could get close to half (10K) to show up regularly for football and basketball games. We're close in terms of football a lot of times (although I am sure some of those students come in from further away than 1 mile) but we have a long way to go in Roundball.

I went to UC back in 92-97. In those day there was still a majority commuting into campus. Funny how we never had an issue selling out student BBall tics for pretty much every game. This was when the Student Section was the entirety of both ends.
