Ah yes, but Jim Herrmann's defense was part of a National Championship. And, Tim Tebow turned out to be a one trick pony. One has to ask, what happened to his DC abilities when he cam to EMU?

NOW THAT I AGREE WITH! I WAS JUST SAYING I REMEMBER BEING EXCITED
I THINK JIM HERRMAN WAS A GREAT DC AND WAS LET GO AFTER 2005 A YEAR EARLY. PROBABLY GETS SAME RESULTS IN 06 AS RE

The team earned the Big Ten rushing defense statistical title for all games by holding opponents to 43.4 yards per game. The team also earned the Big Ten rushing defense statistical title for conference games by holding opponents to 50.9 yards per game. They were the conference leaders in quarterback sacks for conference games (3.3 sacks per game) and all games (3.8 sacks per game)
Scoring Defense
2006: 15.9 pts. per game; 4th in Big 10; 15th in NCAA
Total Defense
2006: 268.3 yds. per game; 2nd in Big 10; 10th in NCAA

in 2007 the numbers declined a bit but still a team that beat Tebow
Rushing Defense 58 NCAA 156.85
Pass Eff. Defense 17 NCAA 109.53
Total Defense 24 NCAA 335.69
Scoring Defense 23 NCAA 21.38

English’s 06’ defense was outstanding until they played Brady Hoke’s Ball State team. Hoke’s squad proceeded to score 28 pts on that vaunted defense. OSU and SC then followed with dominant offensive performances. This carried on into the 07’ season where Appy State and Oregon shredded UM’s defense.

English was a mediocre DC.

Kudos to you guys for identifying the real needs and challenges, managing expectations, and understanding what lays ahead.

You may not remember, but our neighbors to the north were thinking they could get Gruden to come to MP when Butch left. Delusional.

It's nice to have realistic fans!
