From the League Office
While there is some confusion publicly about how bowl selections are made
in the Sun Belt, we have tried to make it clear that the contracts with
our bowl partners give them the right to take the team they want to take.
We do have a working set of guidelines that can be used as a principle for
how the Sun Belt would ask that bowl selections be made - with importance
being placed on the champion and co-champions. However the guidelines
have no bearing on the actual contractual relationships with the bowl
games.

I'm no legal scholar but I wondered how an SBC rule/regulation had any enforcement over a separate contract with an entity such as Bowl Organization unless that rule/regulation was in the actual contract.

This certainly does appear to be setting the stage for someone other than stAte to get the bowl bid. Question is, will it be a WKU, Troy, or USA?

It's going to be hard for the SBC to influence a bowl selection until we get more that 2 bowl tie-ins.

Uh oh. Looks like a good ol' Memorandum of Understanding. They are getting out in front of a potential Arkansas State screwjob.

If the school presidents care anything at all about the future of their schools and our conference, they'll vote this nutjob out or find some way to influence him to leave. Why anyone thought he could do anything positive for the conference is beyond me...

If these "guidelines" are not in the bowl contracts, then what were they written for?

Karl's incompetence comes up over and over.

He isn't in this to do a good job for the members, he's in it for a paycheck and a little fiefdom where he is emperor.

He was an incompetent boob when he led the WAC to it's death and hasn't learned anything other than how to lie a bit better over the years.

He is a disgrace.

RE: From the League Office
The SBC really needs, and deserves, more than two guaranteed bowl tie-ins. It seems that the league is not held in as high of regard as it should be. With the many talented teams in the league this year and the fact that the majority of the bowls are located in the SBC footprint, you would think that it would be a no-brainer to establish a relationship with the SBC.

RE: From the League Office
Last year Kent State's last game was November 30. Arkansas State's last game was December 1..

Kent State accepted the GoDaddy invitation on December 2 and Arkansas State accepted on December 3. That is two days after the last game of the season for each team.

If we don't hear anything today or the next couple of days then could it mean they are waiting on the outcome of the USA/Louisiana Lafayette game to see if USA becomes bowl-eligible?

RE: From the League Office
I think I am missing something here. Bowls are in the business of making money. Having a team with a lot of alumni and fans close by makes you more money. If the CUSA opponent is Tulane they may actually get 50k in the Superdome. So its obvious what RL Carrier's motivation is.

From Louisiana side, ask their fans if they would rather go to New Orleans or Shreveport. Another no brainer. And again, are they more likely to go to a bowl game where the opponent is a known in state school? Yes.

I am I guess failing to see how CKB could have forced Louisiana to go to Shreveport or forced the NOLA bowl to make a lower attended matchup.

So let me get this straight. You are upset with Commissioner Benson because the league had rules that we in place before he got there?

In the end, the Commish has say over the NO Bowl, GD Bowl and if the Big Ten doesn't have enough, some influence in the Little Ceasar's Bowl. After that, the Indy, Pinstripe, Beef O'Brady's or who else can take whoever they want. That would be regardless of the Commish.

Try to look at the situation from an unbiased angle. He also worked really hard to expand the bowl opportunities this offseason. We added one bowl full-time and are part of the rotation of two more. Little Rock didn't work out (or maybe hasn't yet), but from my outsiders perspective, the SBC is actively working to expand bowl opportunities.

Correct. The bowl games first priority is to lock up teams that sell tickets. After that they'll look for TV ratings and lastly how much hotel/restaurant impact it will have on the host city. Karl Benson can try and convince games and universities how to line up but he does not get to make any decisions.

RE: From the League Office
With the SBC having 6(possibly 7) bowl eligible teams this year should result in future bowl alignments, very quickly. There are more bowls coming into existence and other bowls that will be redoing their contracts this off season. If Benson has any ability at all, we should have at least 4 bowl ties for next season. If we don't, fire his worthless a$$.
