Are you sure? Do we know that beer is allowed at the conference championship?

It better be. I don't see why they'd stop it.

I looked through conference bylaws and didn't see anything about it.

It is an event run by the conference unlike baseball regionals and supers which are run by the NCAA and the Roost has to go technically offsite.

Jsst kidding! -40K is awfully cold -- almost indefinably so.

I didn't know this before looking this up, but a system with a negative Kelvin temperatures is actually hotter than any system with a positive temperature ... according to this Wikipedia explanation:

Wikipedia article on 'Negative Temperature' Wrote:In colloquial usage, "negative temperature" may refer to temperatures that are expressed as negative numbers on the more familiar Celsius or Fahrenheit scales, with values that are colder than the zero points of those scales but still warmer than absolute zero. By contrast, a system with a truly negative temperature in absolute terms on the Kelvin scale is hotter than any system with a positive temperature. ...

That a system at negative temperature is hotter than any system at positive temperature is paradoxical if absolute temperature is interpreted as an average kinetic energy of the system. The paradox is resolved by understanding temperature through its more rigorous definition as the tradeoff between energy and entropy, with the reciprocal of the temperature, thermodynamic beta, as the more fundamental quantity. Systems with a positive temperature will increase in entropy as one adds energy to the system. Systems with a negative temperature will decrease in entropy as one adds energy to the system.

Most familiar systems cannot achieve negative temperatures, because adding energy always increases their entropy. The possibility of decreasing in entropy with increasing energy requires the system to "saturate" in entropy, with the number of high energy states being small. These kinds of systems, bounded by a maximum amount of energy, are generally forbidden classically. Thus, negative temperature is a strictly quantum phenomenon. Some systems, however..., have a maximum amount of energy that they can hold, and as they approach that maximum energy their entropy actually begins to decrease.

(See the linked article for examples etc.)

Maybe the C-USA staff used analogous principles for their hosting tie-breaker process?

I think the record low for Houston was -5F in 1899.

I will be there.

RE: Conference Championship at Rice Stadium Roll Call
Why is the R-Room going to be closed for the game?

Parking & Hospitality

• Donors at the Jess Neely level and above who are football season ticket holders will receive the following items in the mail in advance of the championship game: a parking pass (same spot as the regular season) and wristbands to gain access to the Stadium Club. Items will be mailed Monday, December 2nd.
• Donors at the Gray, Sammy or Coach levels will receive their Gold or Grey Lot parking pass in the mail in advance of the championship game. Parking passes will be mailed Monday, December 2nd.
Please note: conference regulations require hospitality access provided to C-USA sponsors and the visiting team. As a result, the R Room will not be open to Rice donors for this game. Additionally, regular season Stadium Club wristbands will not be accepted at the Championship game.

Present but unaccounted for, as always -- unlike my wife, who will have a ticket.

I recently read a number of the comments from Marshall on Facebook and, while I doubt it will happen, I'd love to see 30K+ on Saturday.

Apparently, C-USA gets it for "sponsors" whoever they are. Kinda chickenshit deal if you ask me! But maybe I'll sneak in a flask instead!!

Small price to pay in my opinion. Hopefully when the stadium is renovated there will be a separate area - boxes perhaps - that can be used for hospitality in cases like this.
