I have heard our band may be coming. If so that would be around 300 for us. Good luck to the Rice Owls, I root for you guys when not playing the Herd.

A lot of us, including me, return the favor. I am glad this game matches two teams that staying.

That's awesome if it happens, will definitely add to the championship game atmosphere!

FYI, last week before the Tulane game, the DJs at 95.7 gave a shout out to Rice. They also gave gave one this morning. So hopefully we can get more of Houston out for the game.

Purchased our plane tickets this morning. Flying in from Michigan. We were prepared to make the 6 hour drive to Huntington until we woke up this morning and found out the game is in Houston. It's costing us a lot more but wouldn't miss it for the world! Go Owls!

Loki and wife_of_loki will be there. And I'm going to head over to the ticket office and purchase some for football fans in my office who will cheer for the Owls in spite of their other loyalties.

That's what you call a high-quality problem.

I sure hope this cold front gets delayed by enough to not be 40 and raining the whole game.

I demand non-watery hot cocoa at HRS!

Also, maybe we could incorporate a microbrewery into the HRS upgrades. 03-wink

Note to Athletic Dept.: Could we please (1) right-size the concessions staffing for the likely numbers in attendance, and (2) make sure if the weather is cool that we have hot food and hot beverages easily available? There's nothing to turn off prospective fans from coming back like bad concessions.

This should be a no-brainer, because it also generates more revenue. And yet I've seen Rice stumble on this in the past. It's like whoever is responsible for concessions never looks at the weather forecast or the ticket sales.

Very good.

This event has gathered over 500 attendees literally overnight, the vast majority of them students. Very good is an understatement.

Also, it was created by a freshman. Good to see the young'uns show some spirit.

700+ now.

Will Beer Jail be open, or do conference rules forbid it?

This.

I know Rice only has 1 week to prepare for the game but given the magnitude of the game and (hopefully) the magnitude of the crowd, this is a great time to make a good first impression on many fans.

Absolutely. Not only does it improve the atmosphere, but it puts a lot of butts in the lower east side which is often where the cameras focus.

Marshall seats 38k, and we seat 72k. We've tarped over the end zones and even the corners, but that STILL leaves us with 47k (which is STILL large by CUSA standards) and now lots of open holes where we aren't seating 25,000 people.

We need to spread out. Even if there are 10 seats between aisles, we should only sell 7-8 seats for that row for visitors... give an expected 300 member band "seating" for 350 or 400. Rice fans are used to doing this anyway. I'd HATE to see Marshall packed tightly in a small space and empty space around them.... and shots of a sparsely populated upper deck, while the west side would be far more full.

Up to public party event numbers in 1 day! I understand it is just a facebook event but the amount of student support online is pretty encouraging to me. Most weeks only a few students know we even have a home game. In the 6 football seasons since I matriculated the largest student section I ever saw was the first game of 2008 against SMU on ESPN (maybe 750 students?). I hope we can exceed that with the stakes being much higher in this game despite the weather forecast. This seems to be the level of excitement I've seen when playing A&M or UT.

I know alumni who only graduated a year or two ago who are making arrangements to fly in for this game. I hope they really hype this up on campus over the next week.
