Week 14 Thoughts: What a week all around. It started as expected with one of our 5 unbeatens Northern Illinois beating Western Michigan easily as expected. On Friday though the fun began with Fresno State loosing to San Jose State in a true shootout. Then Saturday came. Florida State beat a limping Florida team as expected, but at the same time, Michigan showed a ton of life against unbeaten Ohio State and was a 2 point conversion away from winning. Then came the final unbeaten playing in the Iron Bowl. Alabama was probably the better team for most the game, but Auburn managed to stay in it. The score was tied with Alabama going for a winning field (having missed a few others). The ball was returned for a touchdown by Auburn and we are down to 3 unbeatens.
On the 1 loss side, we saw Clemson lose to instate rival South Carolina again. The rest of the 1 loss teams survived, although we had some good and close ones.
Perhaps the biggest move of the week was actually in the winless column. This was the final game of the year for all 3 winless teams and 2 of them won. Winless Miami (OH) did lose to Ball State and is the only one to finish the season winless. Hawaii though beat Army by a touchdown. Southern Miss meanwhile, after winning the 2011 Conference USA championship and their bowl that year, hasn't won a game since. They avoided 2 straight winless seasons though by not only beating, but slaughtering UAB 62-27 on the road.
Week 15 Thoughts:
Our 3 unbeatens are playing in conference championship games this week with Fresno State playing Bowling Green on Friday. Ohio State and Michigan State play in Indianapolis and Florida State plays Duke in Charlotte.
On the 1 loss side, Louisville ends its season at Cincinnati on Thursday. 1-loss Oklahoma State hosts Oklahoma with a Fiesta Bowl invite on the line. Should Oklahoma State lose, then 1 loss Baylor will take it with a win hosting Texas (and Texas would take it as well). In the SEC Championship, we see two 1 loss teams facing each other with Auburn against Missouri. The regular season concludes with 1 loss Fresno State playing Utah State in the first Mountain West Championship Game.
