Quote:Does this mean UCF could pass NIU next week?

For all practical purposes... Impossible (if both win to any margin of victory). NIU plays #37 (9-3) Bowling Green, and UCF Plays #87 (5-6) SMU.

UCF jumped up because 3 teams just ahead of them BUT below NIU ... Lost (Texas A&M, Wisconsin, and Fresno).

UCF did not gain any Real ground on NIU. Nothing to worry about.

3 Slots:

Computer: NIU is over UCF in the computers -- and the NIU win VS UCF win next week can only WIDEN NIU's lead over UCF.

Coaches Poll: UCF over NIU by 1 slot. No teams can wedge in between to widen UCF's gap there. Duke beating FSU would put Duke over both. So UCF will just be 1 slot over NIU no matter what.

Harris Poll: NIU is over UCF by two spots. If Oklahoma & Louisville lose, it can bring UCF closer here. But the concept is # of votes. So even though they will be, NIU will still have a decent gap of votes so it will be minimal.

There is NO way, if NIU wins, that UCF can go over NIU in the BCS Bowls. Like ZERO way. :)

Duke fans might be feeling some annoyance. These guys have a hard time not being jerks. Oh well.

Yes, UCF did gain ground on NIU. They cut the lead from .1256 to .0954. It would take an immense perfect storm for UCF to catch us in one more week.

It would take an NIU loss for UCF to catch NIU, that's the only way

Probably the first time in 35 years of ESPN that they weren't kissing Duke's butt.

I imagine its because the Sugar Bowl is much closer to them but if they have to play Auburn or Alabama then that is a tough matchup for them.

That's Duke basketball. Like Kentucky or North Carolina, it's a different world for basketball schools.

Location would be important, but also opponent. I am sure they would prefer neighborhood bragging rights by defeating an SEC opponent.

Basically, it's impossible.

Again, NIU plays a tougher opponent than UCF. Computers will have NIU's gap GROW. Remember the week NIU played against WMU? That *was* the hit NIU would take.

UCF only came in because the teams in-between lost. There was no "jump" UCF did at all. It was a by-default rise.

NIU is already ahead in 1 poll over UCF -- that can narrow if Louisville & Oklahoma loses. But that will be minimal.
Computer poll will GROW NIU's lead there.
NIU is right behind UCF in one poll. Nobody at all is in position to wedge between them to widen that gap.

It's 0% chance UCF goes over NIU -- unless there's some wacky voter-revolt to purposely throw NIU out of it and they all rank NIU #25 in both polls lol

THAT is what it'd take. NIU's lead over UCF in the BCS is *HUGE* -- and NIU plays a tougher opponent by computers AND analysts this coming week. It's not even worth wondering more than 1 second! :)
