RE: Saban: How To Play Pass Coverage
Lot's of insight on what it's like to defend a receiver.

Does he have a page on how to defend a FG return?

Wow---that "playing the ball" concept that Saban was talking about sounds kind of exciting. Of course it is a bit difficult to do if the DB is too busy face guarding the receiver and challenging the ref to throw a flag on every long route.

Of course on the shorter routes the UT DBs are coached not to get within 10 yards of a receiver until the receiver catches the ball and makes at least one football move.

On obvious passing plays the D can always resort to rushing 3 and dropping back 8 to insure that the opposing QB is not hurried and his receivers have all day if necessary to get open. Actually since that strategy doesn't seem to ever work, I am surprised that they haven't tried dropping back 11 in pass coverage and forget any pass rush altogether.

I think you overlook the value of grabbing the face mask. 03-wink

For those of you that don't remember or too young you weren't around, When Toledo hired Nick Saban to be the Head Football Coach, He was the secondary coach for the Houston Oilers (now the Tennessee Titans) under Jerry Glandville. So he was coaching Pro DB's at the time of his hire.
