Cutliffe or Malzahn for Coach of theYear?
Strong cases for both.

Why Cutliffe: when was the last time Duke football was even talked about
Why not Cutliffe: The ACC isn't the SEC

Why Malzahn: worst to first?
Why not Malzahn: maybe Chizik was really terrible

I can't get over the incredible luck that Auburn had in the games with Georgia and Bama. Yeah they were good but just one of those two endings would have been amazing.

I suspect that if Duke gets wacked by FSU and Auburn beats Mizzou, it will appropriately go to Malzahn.

Thoughts?

Too early, need to wait for next Sunday. Gary Pinkel should be in the discussion and
Dantonio if MSU beats OSU.

Malzahn/Pinkel wins unless Duke beats FSU or MSU beats OSU. If either of those cases happen, neither Malzahn nor Pinkel will be disappointed in the COY voting.

I say Cut and here is my argument.

Auburn quite arguably was so bad last year because it was a team to run the Gus style that wasn't running the Gus-fense, most of the results weren't that surprising.

Cut took over a program that has always struggled and made them better.

Yeah, I should have included Pinkel.

I agree with this 100%.

If Missouri beats Auburn, then yeah, I suppose Pinkel is just as strong of a candidate as Malzahn is. Not many folks thought Missouri would be all that competitive in the SEC for awhile. Second year and possibly winning the SEC Championship? They will have beaten the Aggies to that honor. That will be very impressive if it happens.

I love what Malzahn has done and is doing again for Auburn. I understand his consideration in this matter. And before we get carried away folks, the catch against Georgia was serendipity, but the return against Alabama was much different. Alabama begged for 1 second to try to avoid Overtime. Auburn wasn't in that much statistical danger of losing and had the momentum in the second half where Bama had only managed 7 more points. We called timeout and sent the return team in. It was a fortunate play, but hardly a desperation miracle since really the worst we were facing was overtime.

That said I vote for Cutcliffe. Cutcliffe has built a winning program from the ground up. This year Duke has reaped the harvest of several years of that man's life and dedication to his athletes, his school, and his system. It's brilliant really and only measured in my mind next to Bill Snyder who is another of his ilk. Those two are really coaches of "a lifetime" more than just of the "year". What Malzahn and Pinkel have done is exceptional, but hardly a ground up transformation.

Too bad the award can't be split.
