MyBB Delta bumps entire flight to accommodate the Florida basketball team
I'm predicting a very big black eye for Delta.

Yahoo Sports Link

I understand the original charter flight but, when that plane broke down, did they need an entire plane? At the expense of 50 other passengers?

edit: to be fair, the team was allegedly not aware of Delta's actions.

RE: Delta bumps entire flight to accommodate the Florida basketball team
Someone tried to Involuntarily Bump me 4 months ago. Checked into my flight 2.5 hours early.

Air Canada: "I'm sorry but you're probably not going to Calgary today. All the flight seats are taken."
Me: "Well I have a confirmed ticket. I didn't check in early because you wanted to charge me to do so. Its going to be really expensive for you guys to bump me as this ticket was 1500 bucks. You realize that if you don't put me on that plane, that you have to give me twice he amount of the segment up to 1300 bucks in cash or a check presented to me within 24 hours"
Air Canada: "We don't do that. We just give you a 96 dollar voucher"
Me: "You might do that in Canada. But we are in the US, and US law is controlling in this matter. If you involuntarily bump me, not only are you going to have to pay me 1300 bucks, but you are going to have to put me on the next flight leaving for Calgary, regardless of cost to your airline. I can get you a list of the FAA regulations on my smart phone if you'd like. Or perhaps you'd like to call your station manager up in Toronto if you'd like to get more information. One more thing. The FAA regs require that you pay me in Cash, in US currency or issue me a check presented to me within 24 hours. Please note that I have to follow the rules when I fly, I will hold you to the exact letter of those regulations as well."

They found me a seat. In first class no less. Amazing.

----------------------
After my brother was left at the gate by Southwest as an IVB, he and the other 10 people left at the gate, made it so expensive for SWA that they pulled the plane back to the gate to put them on the plane and offer enough to get volunteers.

This has happened to me several times. Only once were FAA regs followed (American had a 1300 dollar check waiting for me at the gate). I find that its really more productive to let them know that you expect that the FAA regulations be followed to the letter, starting with an immediate copy of of a letter describing my rights (which they invariably never have), and let them know that you will not be accepting any non-cash compensation either. Demanding that payment be made per FAA regulations (within 24 hours) is also a requirement that most airlines are not prepared to comply with, especially at airports that aren't their hubs.

This happened earlier this year when the Tennessee women's team bumped an entire plane of passengers in Knoxville.

Cut the Gators some slack ... they had a bad road trip with a last-second loss to UConn. They wanted to get home fast.
