Made that trip several times. 270 to Frederick, 70 west to 68 west to Morgantown, 79 south to Charleston, then 64 west to Huntington.

That is awful advice. You can fly into CRW on United non-stop for cheaper than Lexington or Columbus. You can also fly into Huntington for cheaper on USAir with one stop in Charlotte.

I've made that trip many times on the road. If driving, I70 to I68 then down I79 to I64. Around 6.5 hours.

There's actually a flight from Dulles to Beckley, WV (1.5 hours from Huntington) for $301 round trip, and it's non-stop. I didn't even know Beckley's airport had commercial service, so you may have trouble renting a car if you fly there.
