RE: Beckman and Campbell
I hear Beckman was great at motivating the players but was a complete idiot otherwise. It's showing at Illinois.

Kind of hard to jive the two, being a good motivator but insulting the players (according to the other post). Perhaps one of the reasons he jumped on the Ill offer, he figured he had lost the team here?

RE: Beckman and Campbell
I think Beckman had a few pluses. He re-energized a dead program that had no life or sense of purpose. The GPAs rose, an atmosphere of competition returned, and better recruits landed (with the help of Campbell). However, that's were about ended. Having the ability to run a program from a head coaching position seems to be outside of his capability. As for Campbell, if he is serious about being a head coach in Division 1, he needs to take an objective look at his program. This means taking a serious look at the offensive play calling and coaching players to be able to execute. Things like Reedy knowing/running for a first down in the last game of his senior season is not acceptable. Having an offense with as many weapons as this year's team not be utilized, is a tragedy. The MAC is where coaches come to learn and attempt to make it to the next level. Next year we will learn if Campbell learned anything. If it is a repeat of this year, then maybe he should stick to being an assistant.

Neither Beckman or Campbell would have either of their current respective jobs without Eric Page.

And Beckman would have a better one if he was smart enough to force the ball to Eric Page at all costs in the 4th quarter against OSU instead of using him as a decoy. And what was with putting in TO in that last drive??

Anyways, Eric Page is the most electric player I've ever seen play at UT and he made both those coaches better than they deserved actual credit for.

You seem to have forgotten Dantin not moving anywhere but backwards throughout the entire fourth quarter.

Also was the issue that he had a wet noodle for an arm and posed no downfield threat.

We didn't need over thrown bombs.
But regardless of who was at QB, the ball needed to go to Eric Page

Wasean Tait is a close second for me.
Had to think about this for a while.
But for those who only saw Eric Page at home, the things he did on the road were even more electrifying.
His eye opening debut at Purdue.
The FIU game in Miami.
Just of the many amazing performances.

A single player like this can make a HC like Beckman and OC like Campbell look awfully good.
And almost single handedly land them promotions.

RE: Beckman and Campbell
I liked Beckman better in front of the camera and microphone than Campbell.
And the program got a much needed boost.
No definitive opinion on who was better or who I prefer as HC between the two.

Beckman came up with the genius idea of no freshmen being allowed to be interviewed by media. Great idea. Limit media access. Campbell is doing the same thing. At least basketball isn't making that mistake.

Don't know what their reasoning is but why is it a mistake?

I played on the '90 team when Saban took us to the Championship. No question that Saban and his staff of coaches, which included the likes of Deen Pees ( current DC for the Baltimore Raven), Phil Parker ( current DC for Iowa), were instrumental in taking UT football to the next level. But don't underestimate the talent on that team. It included multiple future NFL players that played more than a few years in the league. Probably more than any other UT team in history. These players included: Jerry Evans TE, Dan Williams DE (UT's only First round draft pick), Darren Anderson CB, Andy McCollum C (Super Bowl Champion and 15 years), Vince Marrow TE, Tommie Boyd WR. I think there even may have been a couple more guys that made NFL rosters for a short while. There were also a few really good future coaches that came from that team. Craig Kuligowski (current Missouri D Line Coach), Matt Eberflus ( Dallas Cowboys LB coach), Dave Walkosky ( Georgia Tech Special Team Coordinator) That team was as talented as any Rocket team in history and we played Defense.

Dan Simrell was a stand up dude.
Never had time to get to know coaches like Beckman who are just passing through.

Wasn't Coach Amstutz the DC for that team too. I know he was for all of Pinkel's teams.

No, Amstutz was the D line coach on the '90 team. Dean Pees was the DC.
