Keep in mind, the computer polls don't take the score into account. And most of the media didn't actually watch the game, and quite frankly, neither team is likely to be ranked in either of the Human polls anyway, given that both came into the week unranked. It all comes down to the computers, in other words.
Marshall's going to get votes. Wait and see. That is all they need, assuming we don't get any.
Who would Marshall get votes from?
They have a crappier schedule than we do, so there's no reason anyone should be trying to rank them ahead of us.
They are going to be a tough game, as I think they match up well against us (i.e. they have a mobile QB).
Marshall will get east coast votes. That victory over ECU was quite visible.

But the polls have been unequivocal in saying that receiving votes != ranking for an unranked team. That means it's down to the computers. And the computers probably aren't going to change their mind too terribly badly about which one of you goes in front of the other.
We had this discussion somewhere on here a few days ago. Apparently, votes for them vs. no votes for us would be a backbreaker. Someone else can explain why.
Once again, who would vote for them and why?

I'm not sure what the computers will say. If Rice hosts, its because the computers are not allowed to account for scoring margin. I hope Rice hosts, but I can't complain if Marshall does.

Why? The only team of note they beat is ECU and, because they lost to Marshall they're gonna lose the few votes they had. You really think any of those votes will go to Matshall now? And what does that have to do with our offense? You think WE could have gotten votes???
If we had hammered Tulane, yes, I think that someone would have done Bailiff a favor and thrown a vote or two our way. I really do.

Either way, I think it's a silly way to decide a host. If there isn't a head to head game to decide things, I think it should be a quick coin toss. That's arbitrary but so are the polls.

Put your money where your mouth is for a change, RiceLad. You irk me anyway. $5 says Marshall gets votes; Rice votes don't factor in. I'll send it to a neutral party on Parliament if I lose.

That victory over unranked ECU? Who cares?
And no, a dominating performance over Tulane was not going to earn Rice pity votes.

I'm not taking $50. Keep it "friendly"; $5, one person. I don't come from big money like some of you do.

Just catching up on the game thread. Walt, I think this post was the triumph of hope over experience.

ECU for one.
iirc, ECU had a few votes in the top 25, and Marshall beat them. I'm not saying it WILL happen, but I'm describing WHO might vote for them.
