Bobinski has influence, whether or not he is in the room. Two years ago they should not have been in the field and they were.

Two years ago he wasn't the Chairman. He didn't take over until last year. Although you are probably still right, because he was on the committee, and by that time, they new he was next in line to take over. So I am sure no one wanted to ruffle his feathers.

I think they have a bid locked up due to their volume of quality wins. I don't follow UD, but didn't they have injuries during their losing streak?

Yep... and now he doesn't have to "leave the room" when their candacy is being discussed.

A loss to Marquette and the Muskies will fall off the bubble due to the fact that the other Big East teams will leapfrog them.

Mike Bobinski is still on the committee and he will not have to recuse himself...they are in regardless barring a ton of upsets in conf tournies.

He can't look like a blatant homer by taking XU over others if they have much more worthy resumes. If it's between 2-3 teams that are otherwise equal he may hold some sway but not taking XU over someone(s) much more worthy. (And since he doesn't work at XU anymore so he may use what influence he has to get more ACC teams in now that he is at GaTech.)

No way should Xavier get in if they lose to Marquette. Their resume sucks. Tons of bad losses, not a single quality win of note on the road, and what are they 4-8 in their final 12 games? Would be 4-9 with a loss on Thursday? No way they are tournament worthy if that happens.

Xavier's problem will be the perennial one for bubble teams; upsets of "in" teams in conference championships that mean an incremental bid must be extended for that tourney champ. That bid often goes to a team no one had in their bracketology and an eleven seeded bubble team is wiped out by a single game.

I think XU will be NIT-bound if they lose to Marquette. Bobinski likely isn't going to worry about taking care of his former team as he may not want to waste any goodwill so he can get his new school in down the line. They will be one of the last teams out if they don't make it (Or one of the last in if they do, probably headed to Dayton). If they beat Marquette, they will still be close, but I think they will sneak in. They do have a few good wins, even if they are at home.

I dont ask for much during the year. But I would LOVE LOVE LOVE X to lose first round of BE tourny and make the NIT while the Bearcats make it to atleast a sweet 16. It would be even more perfect if we beat OSU or UK to get to said sweet 16

Watching Gonzaga v BYU.
David Stockton isnt the spitting image of his dad but pretty close and watching him play the point for Gonzaga is like a time warp.

I tend to think X is in win or lose against Marquette. Hope I'm wrong, but the bubble is so weak this year.

The bubble is pretty much the same every season. A Xavier loss to Marquette will have them right at the cut line and probably on the outside looking in.

We can't forget about Green Bay, Belmont, La Tech, Southern Miss, or Toledo. Every season one or two teams from mid-majors conferences sneak with an at-large bid.

With many of the top seeds in mid-major conferences losing the strength of the 16, 15, 14, and 13 seeds becomes weaker and weaker by the day. Instead of Belmont, Green Bay, and Davidson winning the automatic bids we know have a weaker collection of teams in the tournament.

I don't think Bobinski is on the committee this year. The website I went to had the wrong information. The NCAA website list a different group on the committee. I am little concerned that C-USA has a rep on the committee, the Big East has a rep on the committee, and the Mountain West has Utah State AD, Barnes, is in charge of scouting the American.

The cynic in me wonders how long after the selection show that news comes out from Victory Pkwy that Stanbrook suffered a setback in his rehab and will be having knee surgery.

Everyone sees it coming. I guess the 10 Commandments (i.e., bear false witness) don't apply to basketball and seeding.

If he doesn't play, it will be assumed he won't be ready for the tournament. The committee has shown in the past that they won't trust teams who say a player will be back for the tournament if he hasn't demonstrated it.

Also Bobinski is no longer chair of the selection committee, so people can let that one go.
