Return of the Southwest Conference?
Link
It's a blog and purely opinion. I don't know who this guy is but I think his take is very humorous.

His plan is to drop IA State and WVU.

Quote:Iowa State and West Virginia could join the Big Ten...

Then add Rice, SMU, Houson and Louisiana Tech.

Quote:Louisiana Tech’s inclusion would help the conference when in comes to television coverage, as the school would be able to pull in the New Orleans market.

The equation now goes something like this:
Big 8 + 4 - 2 - 2 + 2 - 2 + 4

RE: Return of the Southwest Conference?
The Texas schools would be a waste of time. Better to go with Tulane and La Tech/ULL. Then maybe look west with New Mexico and Colorado State

Texas
Texas Tech
Baylor
TCU
La Tech/ULL
Tulane

Oklahoma
OK State
Kansas
Kansas State
New Mexico
Colorado State

That being said, the Big 12 would be better served going east and building with WVU. Add Cincy, ECU, Memphis, UCF, USF, Tulane

The Big12 should add New Mexico because of Lobo basketball, tv markets, and the additon of another bowl game. Outside of that. I simply don't know who they should add. Maybe Cincy andSouth Florida?

Does he even know where La Tech is? First off a very large majority of Louisianians are Tiger fans if they follow college football. After that you have your little regional followings but even those tend to pale in comparison in their own area to the Tiger fans there. The only one that seems to really have a strong following is the Cajuns. If you want a team from Louisiana that isn't LSU that can actually compete and bring fans then the choice is easy, it is the Ragin Cajuns.

There will be a new eastern league of CUSA and MAC and maybe Sun Belt schools before there is a new SWC and a new SWC won't include the Horns.

RE: Return of the Southwest Conference?
The whole premise of the OP is absurd. There is no legal way for any conference to simply drop members, which is why expansion decisions are so important in the first place.

The dilemma facing the Big XII these days is how to address WVU's isolation and accompanying travel problems, not how to drop them.

The only thing they could have done was add Lousiville and Cincy but they missed that boat. WV is always going to have those problems since the ACC, SEC, and Big Ten dont want them. Adding UConn doesnt help WV, the 2 states have little in common. 1 is one of the richest states and the other's one of the poorest. Not to mention 1 is a basketball school and 1 is a football school and on and on.

Actually the MAC did just that decades ago with Marshal. The MAC got fed up with the cheating scandals and forced them to leave the conference. Granted it is one of the few all sports examples but it has happened before.

The Big East also forced Temple out.

Iowa State and West Virginia in the B1G?

The writer has very little knowledge of the SWC or why it failed. Changing the name of the B12 to SWC isn't going to help anything.

Temple was an associate member, not a full member.

RE: Return of the Southwest Conference?
You people are crazy. Their will never be another SWC. Texas and A&M will never go back to being regional powers. There is just too much money and prestige at stake. TCU, Texas Tech, and Baylor will remain content to ride the Longhorn's coattails and in most seasons, and settle for scraps.

C-USA West is the closest alignment of programs one could think of as geographically similar to a new SWC, and of those teams, only Rice was an actual member of the SWC.

C-USA West in 2014

Rice
UTEP
North Texas
UTSA
LA Tech
Southern Miss

The 2013 alignment already produced some fun and interesting games this season. This division will be great for C-USA.

Isolation and travel are not that big a deal in terms of realignment.

I think my fanbase knows that pretty well.

You could have a lot of success with a G5 school based on Texas and Louisiana.

I would have never considered this idea 2 years ago, but maybe its time for the Big 12 to accept its fate as a Central Time Zone Conference only.

Its time to start grooming the local states' 2nd best teams for the future Big 12.

Instead of kicking out ISU, use ISU as the model for other schools.

Invite La Tech now, Ark. State in 5 years.

Get Mo. State to move up to FBS and take Mo. State in 10 years.

Don't lump us in with those crap schools.

How about this.

South Carolina, Bowling Green, Ohio, Syracuse and Maine? That's a division right there.

The conference is fine. The final destination for OU and Texas will be the SEC, but it won't happen for a long time. It's time to accept that.

UT and OU will never be in the SEC.

Neither of you can just ditch your dependents (who the SEC doesn't want)

That means your only options are staying put or going to a league like the PAC that is willing to do large tag-along packages.

Interesting considering the SEC offered OU an invite in 2010 and 2011. Sorry. You are wrong.

The Sooners would be a crown jewel for Slive. Texas would come along because of it's market and recruiting ties.
