My thoughts on our first season in the Sun Belt
I want to start off by saying I'm happy we got bowl eligible in only our second year of FBS football. However, it feels like a failure after being 6-3 and getting blasted in our last three games of the season. We still can't find a way to win against teams with winning records or when losing at halftime. The Sun Belt is a solid conference that is pretty even throughout. Seems like any team can win any week. While UL is top now that can easily change next year just as GSU can make a run and shown by their improvement. Now to look at each team.

Louisiana - What an introduction to the conference. Texas St fans were at an all time high this season and the Ragin Cajans shut us up. Fast. Their fan base was a blast to banter with leading up to the game. I expect this series to be a fun one and will be my number one conference game I look forward to each year.

ULM - This game just pissed me off. Two pick sixes?!?!? I figured this was a lose until Browning got hurt. ULM did nothing offensively most of the game and those turnovers sucked. Hope ULM continues to play well after Browning is gone.

USA - Almost blew this one to USA. Had to rip USAs heart out on a 4th and 24 but really the Bobcats let this one slip away late. USA is a solid addition to the conference. They seem a lot like us in that they are playing well but not quite up to speed in competing week in and week out in conference.

Georgia St - Surprise team of the season. Had this marked as a blowout. After a rough start to the year, Miles has this team going in the right direction. Played a lot of teams close and will be a sleeper next year. Panama and company will finally see a payoff in their investment of time.

Idaho - Joining next year so I included them. Dome looks nicer then one would assume. Or at least I thought so on TV. I think y'all will improve too but will take time. Y'all seemed to wear out as the season went on.

Arkansas St - Another awesome fan base and regional foe. This will be another fun annual game. It was a great game until halftime. Then Texas St went home early. stAte appears to have not lost much following yet another new coach.

WKU - I for one am sorry y'all will be leaving us. This game was UGLY in the first half. Five Texas St turnovers. Guess we wanted to know how WKU felt against Tennessee. WKU finally settled in against our injured QB and lay done a beat down. Andrews is awesome. Glad we won't play him again.

Troy - We couldn't possibly lose a third in a row with a bowl on the line, could we? Yup why not. #1 on defense was all over the place and I really liked your back up QB. He shredded our defense running and passing.

All in all 6-6 is okay. Two more wins than last year. I'm ending this season with a poor taste in my mouth having lost three straight with our first bowl on the line. It will be a LONG off season. Another 10 months of fans hating the coach and system.

I look forward to next year when our FBS recruits get older and we add more depth. Until then, heres to the rest of the SBC and rooting for some bowl wins.

I also want to add that this conference is fun to be a member of. I love how teams support other teams and it feels like a home. I hope realignment doesn't mess that up again. The WAC was fun but no one wanted to be there. It made for an awful experience.

Me too. Texas State, Appalachian State, and Georgia Southern were all solid additions. I'm looking forward to the Texas State game next year in Mobile. Will this be Franchione's first trip back to Alabama since leaving the Tide high and dry?

The best part about the Texas St, Appy St and Ga Southern adds is the fan support those teams have. It'll be nice going to fuller stadiums, then the vacant lots that were F_U.

RE: My thoughts on our first season in the Sun Belt
i think txstate had a heckuva year for just starting and have great po.

my boy wkuyg said it was the best stadium in the sunbelt and he's seen all of 'em and i trust anything he says.

i tried to splain that where you really see a difference is in o-line and d-line size at this level. and i'm not talking pressbook size. they're as fake as a scrippers hoots.

but it looks like you guys are a great addition just like south al. i think both gaso and appst will be just as good down the road.

all the new guys will be good football adds. i've said on my home board i think the sunbelt is a better footall conference down the road than coosa. not huge but a separation imo.

we jumped for hoops and perception but i will continue watching the belt grow. txstate will be a huge part of that growth.

I am over the moon about replacing North Texas with Texas State! Nice showing today by the Bobcat fans, I hope to return the visit someday.
