Geez, tonight is troubling.

So it's Charlotte and Louisiana Tech alone on the top tier? Hope the Bulldogs can hold their own (and pull an upset) over Oklahama State & Oklahoma.

You know nothing about college basketball, same as before.

RE: CUSA Basketball (11/29/13)
Eek, 0-5 on the night. Would have liked for USM to compete better than they did, but ultimately at least it was an expected loss. I would have thought UTEP would have given Iowa a bit more of a game given that the Miners beat a solid Tennessee team.

It's days like these that sure up the idea of CUSA being a 1-bid league, at least for this season. I was hoping we may be a 2-bid league, but I just don't know how that will happen. I'd love to be wrong on that though. If it is a 1-bid league though, the conference tournament will be a lot of fun to watch.

So, in your world, how do you get an at large bid when you play in a weak conference?

Win the conference Tournament, not whore yourselves out to certain defeat. Complete stupidity. Now they have something to hold against us the rest of the year, and certainly will no matter how well we play the rest of the year it will be held against us. For some reason we played the worst game during Tyndall's two years here yesterday. I saw it coming when the game was scheduled , just as it has done in all the years I have been a fan of USM. Terrible philosophy.

RE: CUSA Basketball (11/29/13)
It's a loss at Louisville. Almost every team in the country would lose there. The Selection Committee doesn't award points for moral victories. If Southern Miss wins the rest of their games, the Committee won't say, yeah but they lost by a ton at Louisville, so they don't deserve a bid.

Seriously, outside of winning the conference tourney, what is your brilliant scheduling philosophy for USM. I'd like to hear it as well so I can tell Coach Haase that this genius on the message board figured something out that no D-1 coach can.

RE: CUSA Basketball (11/29/13)
The USM loss to Louisville and UTEP's to Iowa don't hurt either team but they also don't help them. The key to getting an at large bid is to win OOC games. There is NO debating that. A win against a team with an RPI outside of 150 does nothing for you. Schools like the ones in CUSA have to take some chances and schedule some of these games. We also have to try and schedule games with teams that might finish in the top half of their conference. What hasn't been mentioned here is the fact that the high level players want to play on television against the best teams in the country. The teams in CUSA do not get to play on national television unless they are playing a team like Louisville or in a tournament like the Battle for Atlantis. I would question your scheduling if you played: UNC, Kansas, Arizona, Kentucky, Syracuse, and Michigan State all in the same year. There is nothing wrong in taking some shots at the big boys.

Brainiac, winning the conference tournament gets you the automatic qualifier. I asked about an at large bid. To get an at large bid, you can't hide behind playing Blue Mountain. You have to man up and play the tough games. You might lose, but you don't beat them unless you play them.

Oh yes, it hurt them. The Committee can't wait to Hold it against them come March. You are right, nothing wrong with playing traditionally known basketball schools, but in neutral or home and home venues. Louisville will not play us inHattiesburg, of course, so you don't schedule them where you are doomed for failure

I agree.

Stan?...How came up with the Unis yesterday? Not to be a fashionista...but..those whites are very "washed out". I barely could tell it was UTEP playing....the letters and numbers don't stand out.

I have no idea who decided on those uniforms. I can't stand them myself.

So you are conceding an at large?
So why play the season? Just show up for the conference tourney. Three game season.
