RE: EMU VS CMU Game Day Comments
You guys have a good, young OL, and your RB has a little wiggle in him. The QBs seem to have potential; obviously Robach (sp?) is young and tried to force some things. Your receivers definitely need some work. Cold hands maybe, but a few drops. That side of the ball isn't in such bad shape.

Your defense, OTOH... 03-puke . Definitely some coaching issues there, as guys were frequently out of position, so I couldn't get a good read on talent. Lots of bad tackling also. Although Tipton and Davis do tend to cause some of that. Need work on special teams also, but that's fixable, with the right approach.

Good luck in your coaching search, and see you on the hardwoods. 04-cheers

Bob Wickersham,

I must disagree with you, I still think this team can compete next year.. I think we have the talent to do this. I believe the problem was with the kids not being communicated the correct way or taught right by the staff that we currently have in place.. Take away today's dropped TD's we are talking a different played game.. I know whoever comes in will need to bring in some defense help from the juco colleges ranks. This is the reasons I believe we need to come with a big name coach to land some kids..I would recruits kids by telling them every position is open for playing time and this is what most kid want to hear anyway.. If we land some freshmen, I would have them RS a year.. This is the way you build a MAC college program ( with your RS kids). It provides them a year to grow in their mind, emotions and physical size.. This is where English may have gone wrong.. Imagine if the current roster kids were all RS their freshmen year, We would have a very good and young team..
This team is as far away from competing as any EMU team in recent memory. If you looked at the season stats; points allowed, yards allowed, etc. You would see that this one of the very worst teams in DI football. On top of that, there is a lot of QUIT in these players. Add to that the fact that EMU will not be able to attract/pay a top-notch coach...it will be an endless cycle of losing. Ah reality: I HATE you!

We have talent, I agree...Particularly on offense. Let us not forget that we have Benz coming back next year. A new coach might think he's the short-term answer, particularly if we move to a passing spread.

I agree with your comments.

There IS some talent on the offense and I agree (with another poster) that Benz has a lot to offer at QB. I think he got the hook way too early this year. In 2013 Benz was a better QB than Roback. In 2014? Who knows... I would have given Benz more PT.

This sounds silly, but I wish someone like Jon Gruden could come in as a consultant and watch the defensive tapes from each game and try to make sense of it. I can't other than to say it was UGLY. But saying that it was ugly doesn't do more than state the obvious.

I'm totally baffled by the defense. I don't know how much it is to bad talent at key positions (e.g., DT), bad schemes which simply aren't working, team which was worn down, team which quit, etc. etc.

I bet a real expert probably could look at the defensive characteristics, e.g., size, speed, 225 reps, agility drills, technique, etc. etc. and identify those players who don't have MAC-caliber abilities.

RE: EMU VS CMU Game Day Comments
I was listening to the CMU post game talk and you could hear in Stan voice the struggles that the team had this year and how hard it was to get through the season.. I would love to sit with him as a sounding board to hear what he had to say.. I will try and hold my comment until after the new coach is hired and listen to him after spring-ball (I will even attend a couple games) before saying what we can't do..

If everyone recall in the OOCG we played Penn and Rutgers good in the 1st half and then we lost it after halftime.. Then when we started the MAC play the team was done after Ball State game. Something must had happened before/during/after this game..

As others had shared before, there (must) had been problems in the locker room and the team didn't want to play for the coaches.. I am a believer that if a player is thinking about playing during a game and not reacting to the plays, then it over already.. When you have players starting to 2nd guessing themselves and their abilities as a D1 football player, it's over for them.. Then throw into that the team is losing so players are questioning the coach about who is on the field (i am sure the staff was also probably questioning players personnel who were playing and not playing).. We benched Hill and no real reason was shared.. We played a Freshman QB (this was a very bad call) why? play call coming late into the defense, poor play calling on the offense, playing the same players and expecting a difference response.. Then the release of the English locker room tape. Then we lose a player that everyone loved. My God, we are lucky the team even suited up to play.. I don't think the last 8 games is not a fair assessment of this team.. I can't wait to hear who the new hire is and see the staff that he will bring in.. I don't know for a fact but I think there has to a place for Wheatley on the staff as a assistance, if he wants to come back to EMU, as I said in another posting. My friends swear this guy would be good for the kids. I don't know..

Sounds like a 'burn the tapes' season and start anew with a new staff. 03-idea
