Darn, I won't be able to make it out to DeKalb anytime soon. I was there this past week for the blackout game, I wish I knew about this then.

Agreed but it doesnt hurt to have tons of great athletes on the team...5 guys that can run a 4.4 40 yd dash vs 2...is always better

You should always want to improve the caliber of player you are getting in your program

ESPN has us at 5 3star guys right now. no one even knows who these guys are that give out the ratings anyways, they definitely arent coaches

why would the SHG best player want to go to U of I? maybe there is a family tie, but other than that what can U of I sell to a player? "Come play for us, we may win 1 or 2 Big Ten games"

oddly enough according to Rivals, Malik Turner only had offers from Illinois and Ball St. Kid can play, wish we would have jumped into the mix

The "recruiting services" do not sell their services to college football coaches. They sell their services to fans. Their goal is to sell their product to as many fans as possible. They award stars based on how many offers and from who. Ie. the recruits we lost went up because of more interest including major conferences. The recruits didn't magically get better. It just confirms that our coaches know what they're doing. The analysis they publish is just regurgitated newspaper articles.

Ironically, for schools like NIU, the lower the stars the better so our recruits don't get poached. Just rely on our coaching staff. They've proved over and over that they know what they are doing.

I agree that NIU has gotten some 2 star recruits that play at 4-5 star levels...My point is that if you want the bar to be set higher than just winning the MAC then you need to not just get over achievers but get guys that are bigger faster quicker stronger...just look at the size of our LBs for instance....they are all 20-30 lbs smaller than some big time programs LBs...

It doesnt matter in MAC play but it will when the rbs are 230-250
