Miss state won last night.

I believe MissSt wins means that CUSA DOES get the Liberty. Now Birmingham can place SEC vs AAC. If MissSt hadn't won, the Birmingham would not have been able to pit the SEC vs the AAC, and the Liberty could have taken an AAC to go against the SEC in Memphis.

Good deal for whoever wins CUSA.

RE: No liberty bowl for C-USA?
I think this depends.

Would the Liberty want Rutgers over the C-USA champ? The only other option would be to send Cincinnati to Memphis and Rutgers to the Pinstripe, but this would put UC back in Memphis for the second time in three years and Cincinnati did not sell out their allotment of 12K tickets two years ago and it's unlikely Rutgers would either.

As I mentioned in another thread just because the Liberty can take an AAC team doesn't mean that it will. I think it will depend on who wins the C-USA champinoship game and whether or not ECU gets placed in the Belk if they win the CCG. Then the Liberty bowl folks will have to evaluate which direction they think will be best for them. This is not black and white right now.

This is my interpretation as well. Miss. State will be in Birmingham now. Vandy will be in Memphis and play the C-USA champ unless some other arrangement is made.

RE: No liberty bowl for C-USA?
There is a good thread on this on the AAC board. I think it is fairly black and white. In the AAC/SEC bowl agreements, those two conference have to be paired together in at least one bowl. Birmingham is the first chance for that. But if it can't happen in Birmingham, then the Liberty has to pit them against each other.

I'll go try to find that thread and link it here. Has some good quotes from articles about how it works.

I do not think anything is set in stone at this point but the win by Miss St helped CUSA's chances of placing their champion in the Liberty Bowl. If Miss St would have lost last night CUSA probably would not have been in the Liberty Bowl.

RE: No liberty bowl for C-USA?
second page gets into good details on the subject.

http://csnbbs.com/showthread.php?tid=663415&page=2

Here is one good quote from Memphis paper

The Liberty Bowl and the Compass Bowl share the last selections among all the SEC bowl agreements, but the Liberty Bowl picks ahead of the Compass Bowl this season [2011]. According to C-USA associate commissioner Alfred White, the Liberty Bowl has three possible matchups every year, depending on the amount of bowl-eligible SEC teams and whether two SEC teams play in BCS bowls.

"If there are eight SEC bowl-eligible teams, the Liberty Bowl matches Conference USA versus the Big East," White said. "If there are nine SEC bowl-eligible teams, it's SEC versus Big East. And if there are 10 bowl-eligible SEC teams, it's the SEC versus Conference USA."

I'd take Rutgers just to avoid the embarrassment of having a CUSA school in my bowl. Yeah, they might not bring 50,000 people on their own, but it's all about TV now, and nobody wants to watch Nowhere Tech or Texas State Optical get blown out on New Year's Eve.

Do you really think anyone wants to watch Rutgers? It will be Marshall, Rice, or Tulane all of which have every bit as much appeal as Rutgers.

Back from the game and what I am hearing is if Marshall wins it will be Miss. St vs. Marshall, if it is a West team there "might" be a trade.

I'm hearing it will be the winner of the championship game.

Lots of fans on South Main Street hoping for Rice versus Vanderbilt.
