Certainly a well deserved reward for Thurmond. It's amazing the affect a coach can have on a defense or offense.

Well deserved.
Those turn-around stats for the Owls D the last two years say it all.

Coach Thurmond - Nominee for Broyles Award
Now, this is the kind of news that really makes me nervous.

This is well deserved, and it shows that the team has responded to him.

The best hire Bailiff made after we had to suffer under a lousy one for three years.

He saved Bailff's butt for sure.

especially since Beaty who the majority of us wanted back proved to be pulling an "Ennis" and just auditioning for another job elsewhere.

Hope something is being worked on to get him a raise. Don't want to lose both coordinators, especially Thurmand.

Agreed. We better shell out to keep him.

While some of the defensive improvements should be attributed to our two stellar corners, the talent on defense isn't so much better than years past, so it is obviously coaching. I don't think we have anywhere else to go but up with Thurmond, and we will have to shell out some dough to see if that's true. Other programs will see what he has done at Rice and want him to do the same for them.

RE: Coach Thurmond - Nominee for Broyles Award
Duarte tweeted that Coach Thurmond is not a finalist for the Broyles Award. Anyone who suffered through watching the Driesbach defenses from 2009-2011 begs to differ with that decision!

In 2009, Rice's defense gave up 43.1 pts/game, 190.6 rushing yds/game, 273.4 passing yds/game, and created 18 turnovers.
In 2013, Rice's defense has given up 22.8 pts.game, 159.5 rushing yds/game, 189.9 passing yds/game, and created 24 turnovers.

Anyway, here's to hoping Rice gives him a nice raise to keep him around after 2 more Rice victories!

Aren't we down three key bodies--Nwosu, the DT who got injured, and the DT who didn't come back to school--compared to preseason expectations?

Even with Gaines and Callahan, filling those holes effectively is a great accomplishment.

I'm not an X's and O's expert, so I'll ask it as a question--are we doing clever things schematically to leverage the plus-plus talent level at CB?

Couldn't happen to a mre deserving person. To a player they will walk through fire for him. He and coach Patterson make a great team.
