death to the ACC and the CUSA along with them
gdayre Wrote:Well, dont shoot the messenger, but that tampa bowl or whatever you calling it. I was talking to a relative, who goes to an acc school, told me that( on campus rumor) the acc is pushing for this bowl against CUSA vs ACC. They want this for one reason only, to have one more bowl game than the sec. Now I know for sure that the ACC contacted the liberty bowl first when the announcement was made about re-alignment (it was told on the news that they were the first to contact us about this). I ask how long this rumor has been going on? He said all year. He also made the commit that it is just a matter of time before this happens. He said they are trying to get this set up for when they open their new stadium everything will be in place for this to start. AGAIN THIS IS JUST A RUMOR FROM AN ACC FAN. DONT SHOOT THE MESSENGER.
This is ridiculous. The ACC already has 8 bowls. No freaking way should the NCAA let them have 9 bowls. Tampa, by the way, is Big East territory. No ACC or CUSA allowed. We need to get together with the Big Ten now and start plans for this thing for next year. Big East #4 vs. Big Ten #8.

The Liberty has the highest payout. And Big 10 #6 will face no better than SEC #7 or #8 in Music Bowl. I think the Big 10 would be quite receptive to a Florida Bowl played after Xmas against BE in Tampa.

The Houston Bowl was a quick and short term fix for BE...in the long run, the Houston Bowl does not make sense for BE. A similar situation regarding georgraphy is the Palmetto Bowl which ACC had established with CUSA as the opponent....to get away from traveling across the country to Boise. Distant geography doesn't work for bowls at the lower level bowl level.

Regarding the Houston Bowl, I hope it survives and that CUSA can be an annual part of it. Because of short travel times and alumni living in the city or close by, UTEP brought 20,000 fans to Houston Bowl and Tulsa brought 15,000 fans to Memphis. If Houston Bowl survives and is indeed a CUSA bowl (all conjecture at this point), I think Houston Bowl looked at these figures and the reality of the situation...the probable good attendance of Houston U and Rice....and that georgraphy just makes too much sense for Houston Bowl.

I would like a Florida Bowl for CUSA also, either with BE or another BCS conference.

Today's problem is tomorrow's opportunity. There is no doubt BE will come up with a fourth bowl....better than anything now on the table including Houston Bowl. BE has continued to surprise since its convulsion and re-establishment. No doubt it will again do so. Regarding CUSA, it too has surprised and, like BE, the future is very promising.
Once again this shows why the Big East needs to take Central Florida now and get CUSA out of that state. With no UCF there is no reason to have CUSA in a Florida bowl. They are threatening our bowl situation. They stole Houston and now they want to plot with the ACC on a Florida bowl.

lolly .... tampa and orlando are both SEC citys... not BE nor CUSA.. I am an UCF fan... but also am a realist.... USF and UCF are a distant 2nd or 3rd choice in their own towns. as for houston its only a rumor that its even been saved... so as of now no one has stole anything from any one.. and to be honest if BE is the back up for cusa/big 12 in houston... BE will be there more often than not... big 12 wont have team available more than 1/2 the time... and cusa wont much more than that.

The NCAA has no jurisdiction on how conferences sign their bowl contracts. The conferences, more or less, market themselves to these bowls and if the bowls want SEC #12 if it qualifies, they'll sign a contract for it. On the flipside, conferences want to be in the position to fill all their bowl slots. I know the SEC has to guarantee their lower tier bowl partners an SEC team the year after if they don't have an eligible team in the current bowl season.

Other bowls might have contract language that have a monetary payments if a conference can't fill its slot. An example of that is the Liberty Bowl did receive a payment from the MWC when Utah went to the Fiesta Bowl. The Liberty Bowl-MWC contract didn't have any language where the conference champ could be released to a BCS bowl if it qualified and the Liberty threatened to hold Utah to that contract until it received, what is rumored to be, a small part of either Utah's or the MWC's BCS payout.
