Does it make some of you NIU folks feel even better about your program to take potshots at an easy target? I spend half my day out here in the Southwest defending NIU to the Big 12 snobs, then have to read the childish, snarky remarks directed at my school.
C'mon. You guys are better than that, or at least, you should be.
I wish all the best for EMU, but I do honestly think that your football program, and even more so its fan base, are to far gone to operate within an FBS conference at this time. Its not fair to the other conference members at this point. An exit to FCS with the right to re-enter would be the most sensible option if we were all being upfront about the issue.
Explain how it's "not fair" to the rest of the conference. I'm sure you weren't saying the same things about your own school's football team when they were atrocious not too long ago.
And it's not the most sensible thing to do, as we'd have to remove all of our sports from the MAC as well. While we aren't productive in football (granted it's the biggest revenue sport), we are very productive and competitive in most other sports. Again, it would be like everyone wanting to kick NIU out of the MAC because your basketball team is an abomination and has been for quite a while...not gonna happen.
Frankly, this is a dead horse you're beating on in this thread. It's not gonna happen in the foreseeable future, so live with it.
Football steers our conference like every other FBS conference. I'm just asking, REALISTICALLY, how many MORE years should EMU be allowed to have sub-FCS crowds watching losing games in Ypsilanti? 2 more, 3 more? If this year's "Actual" attendance is repeated by EMU for 4 more consecutive seasons do you really think you should be in an FBS conference???
Please answer in years without mention of quality 2nd-tier sports or other schools 2-4 basketball squads. (Not being adversarial, just realistic. Its one thing to have a few, or several bad seasons, but in this case there is no FBS level football program operating presently at EMU.)

He is too old.
Thats the bottom line.
Whatever his coaching resume. Which isn't as good as it is LONG

EMU teams are not as bad as everyone gives them credit for.
They are not easy wins or automatic.
BUT the attendance issue is real. BUt I've been to empty MAC almost stadiums everywhere.

Regarding attendance IMO Miami is more disappointing, based on their rich history. The last 2 years on the field have been ananomly for Miami football. I understand they draw better for hockey and BB.

RE: 2 legit to quit
Believe it or not, but Miami's paid attendance this year was actually better than 2012 (about 16,000 vs. 14,700). Of course that's not actual butts in the seats, but we've been marketing well and we should start getting decent crowds once we put together a good team together.
Basketball isn't very good, I think you're just thinking of hockey. We averaged under 2,000 per game last year and I don't think it'll get any better given our performance so far this season. Hockey is where you got it right, we've been filling Goggin for quite some time now.
