Now let's start talking championship game hosting possibilities. I can't find the official tiebreaker policy, but I found an old link from 2008 that said that it if East and West champs have same conf record and didn't play each other, then BCS ranking is the tiebreaker. Can anyone confirm?
Also, does anyone have a link to the BCS computer averages? I've seen it before, but can't find it now. I assume that's what it will come down to.
ECU is uncatchable, and if Marshall beats them, I imagine they'll be ahead of us
Do you have a link?
Also, I didn't mention it above, but there's a no-tie scenario: A Marshall loss to FIU this week followed by a Marshall win over ECU next week. That's what I'm rooting for, of course.
I believe these are full BCS rankings: http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/rankings/bcs . ECU is 36 and just badly beat #92 NC State. Rice is 55 and just squeaked by #108 UAB. That is, they're about 20 spots ahead of us and likely to be more by next week. They're getting votes. We're not catching them.
Marshall is #70 right now. If ECU beats them, they'll stay ahead of us, even if we beat #74 Tulane. Who knows what happens if Marshall beats ECU, but I imagine a win vs. #30 or so ECU would jump them ahead of us.
Sweet, thanks. The key to ECU's ranking is those votes you mentioned. With no votes, it would go to the computers, where ECU is 45, Rice is 55, and Marshall 70. So I think we have a shot a if Marshall beats ECU (even if Marshall wins this week). In fact, I'd say we're the favorite to finish ahead of Marshall even if they win out.

I'm pretty sure this means nothing, but all three teams that beat us have lost today.

Even if we finish higher in the computers we could lose by being outvoted. The Marshall coach has a vote in the poll and I can see him thinking that a win over ECU is justification to put his own team in the top 25. Maybe Bailiff should put us in at 25 at least if Marshall and Rice both win.

That would be a hell of a stretch by the Marshall coach. Their best computer ranking is 61. Bailiff shouldn't play that game.
I was going to say 'bullsh1t", but I'll change it to "I respectfully disagree".

RE: UTSA at UNT game thread!
Agreed that Bailiff should play (if it matters) He and his boys deserve to host if it isn't ECU.... and while it may be a stretch, this is all about sales. We lost to A&M and UH who are both pretty good, despite the losses... and we got upset on the road in a game I would argue that we played down in... On the inside, I don't believe we're top 25 by any measure, but we deserve to host if there is any way we can...
BTW, swap the cameras (shoot towards the home side) building or bringing in whatever we need to do that, and put the mob and student sections on the home side.. I don't care if we displace some donors (which we won't, low and outside the 30) but I want the cameras to see a SEA of blue, not a mixed bag of home and away... and in a stadium as large as ours, even 30-40,000 doesn't look particularly full.. (and that would be a tremendous crowd I think against a school like Marshall with virtually no local alumni. Give away 20,000 seats if we have to to any of dozens of good causes (HISD, Big Brothers, YMCA, foster care).
I HOPE there is some way that we can make that happen, and beating Tulane (which is no guarantee) is step number one and the only thing we can really control.

Wow - Baylor/OK State. Petty is scrambling for an easy TD, but inexplicably stumbles and falls at the 1. Two plays later the Baylor RB fumbles while trying to stretch the ball into the end zone, and Cowboys recover.
Still early, but that's a huge shift.

Amen to this. Admin and Athletic Dept. marketing people need to be getting their heads together NOW to make this a BIG DEAL. Practically give tickets away if needed - - this isn't about getting a marginal revenue bump for one game. This is about drawing NEW fans and giving them a FUN experience (i.e. big crowd)

The only reason for voting himself in the top 25 that I can see would be some sort of "win at all costs, including your integrity" bullcrap. Heck, if we're going to go down that road, the optimal game theoretic outcome is that he puts Rice at #1 in the country.
Part of Bailiff's job is as a molder of men, and Rice stands for better than that. Fortunately, I don't think there's any doubt that, if this situation comes up, Bailiff will do the right thing.

I get your point JOwl, but Bailiff didn't make the rules. May as well have him tell our players not to hit the other players hard or don't try and draw the other team offsides on 4th and 1
Parents tell their kids every day how special they are... and other than MY kids, they aren't.... lol

Well, in the context of the BCS ranking, it sure does mean something.
