RE: If you were AD....
We have already scheduled A&M for 14 and are looking at State for 15 or 16.

I would do a series with Samford. Play them once in football at LF and play them two for one in basketball or a straight up home and home for hoops. It would be basically a home basketball game for us in their building.

Let me be AD. I'll really F the place up!

UAB has made a start with the weight training facilities in Bell Gym in 2005, but when will "as planned" give way to "in place" for the other needed facilities?

Other C-USA schools we must play are not waiting around for UAB to catch up. UAB has the best environment in this state for athletic success, but failure to adequately "monetize" the program has led to it lagging behind by a greater amount every year in "keeping up with the Jones" and that shows up on the playing field.

How long can UAB count on USM and FIU to provide a cushion for our record? They have BOTH taken measures to get back into competition for the leader spots. What measures will UAB take to stay in the "race to the top" ?

How about a split of the gate home game with a relatively local team; FSU, Auburn, UGA, M$U, Ole Miss or Tennessee ?

15k UAB fans and 35k of theirs would raise the gate numbers a bit.

That is great. But theres an opportunity for intensive follow up once they get in campus. It would be interesting to see if intervention would produce some long term benefit.

Hopefully in the future we can stop bringing a knife to a gun fight every Saturday

I'm just sick of not getting guys in and then having them line up against us and beat us. Especially guys that wanted to go here and now when they play us have an extra mad on. It's ridiculous at this point for a kid to be eligible to attend UAB but not play football or basketball. That's not diminishing dfarr's degree. lol

That's a really good point. A lot of these guys we play against we recruit but can't take because of past stupidity

I have heard this as well. We had to swing the pendulum almost entirely the other way to offset the APR restrictions. I think most fans do not realize the toll that the APR issues took on the program - I certainly did not until recently.

It had a bigger toll than the BOT and any NCAA probation could be COMBINED outside a death penalty.

I wouldn't count Southern Miss as a "notch" on UAB's belt just yet, but for now, you're right, were it not for them and Florida International, UAB would be the conference "cellar dwellers."

I would say that Regions field is out. Don has said that it is a baseball only (as far as sports go) field. He said he might be open to concerts but no other sport than baseball. Also there is this quote from an article on al.com from April of this year: "Don even continues to hope for the day UAB will build a football stadium not far from Regions Field." --- article here: http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2013/04/logans.html

Doesn't sound to me that he is interested in having UaB play at his park.

He shouldn't be since UAB isn't interested in playing there.

We have finally dug ourselves out of the APR catastrophe in basketball and football. The fact that those stats are a rolling 4 year average is why it took so long to fix the problem. It only takes a couple of horrible years to screw up the work for years of average to above academic performances, and it is really difficult to get excellent academic performances from everybody ( far exceeding the average UAB student performance btw ) in order to right the ship in athletics.

Many forget that the APR problem was not like a "see-saw" with the fulcrum in the middle (50%). It was like a "see-saw" with the fulcrum at 70% with a need to pile enough good grades on the upper "30% end" to balance the <70% grades that had piled up for years. That took a great effort by the school and its newer student athletes to get that new "balancing act" done.
