Well, at least we fought off the recruiting charge from Austin Peay and Alabama A&M. Hope he gets in........we lost a good DE from Woodlawn a couple of years ago to grades (as we did WR Courtney Foy from Midfield).

Let's hope he doesn't find his way to BlazerTalk...Austin Peay might not seem so bad after reading thru here.

Spot on, Frenchy. These are the kind of "room to grow" DLine guys non-Cartel schools have to take a chance on.

RE: Parker DE LaDarius Jackson commits to play football at UAB
A 17 ACT and a 2.3 gpa. I am not sure he can academically make it to UAB. With our rigourous academic standards as of late (last 10 years), I think it has really affected football recruiting. We used to be able to take more kids that may or may not work out, but had lots of athletic upside. Not so much anymore. I think a few a year wouldn't hurt.
They likely offered him after seeing him at one of the summer camps, said they offered him in the summer. Good height and could bulk up some.
I hope we get him signed. I think the academics may have scared off other bigger offers. I don't think the SWAC schools have rigorous admissions. I had a high school buddy who got into Southern Univ with under a 2.0

That's all we have been getting basically for the last ten years. Glorified DEs turned DTs. We need to recruit DEs to be DEs. Go get some 6-1 to 6-5 290+ guys to play on the line. I'm tired of getting guys and having to feed them 10 meals a day to make them defensive linemen. That's one reason our line hasn't dominated crap in forever.

Honest-to-gosh college-ready DTs end up somewhere higher up the college football food chain.

Yep, like North Texas, UTSA and UCF.
When you give up about 500 yards per game, I find it hard to believe that any of the players would show up here expecting to find many compliments about there performance. Maybe I should leave reality, and enter fantasy land like some of you. LOL

LOL +1 Almost every team we play has a superior DL, doesn't matter if they are from the SEC, C-USA, or Sun Belt.
Several folks brought up the lack of DL recruiting last year but were told to quit worrying, UAB was going to fix it by moving guys from the OL over there and by turning some LB's into DE's. The real solution is for the staff to get out there, work their ass off, and get some FBS caliber DL recruits in here. They can stroll over to the Arena some time and ask how to recruit to poor old UAB if they aren't sure.
