Will ETSU finish this game 0-5, for the first time since 1942-43?

Honestly, if we lose this game, I might go ahead and pull the trigger on Bartow. I know the school will want to wait until year's end to minimize the buyout, but there's nothing to accomplish by letting him have a full season if he can't beat freaking Samford.

I guess wiring it up and everything is too much of a hassle?

The excerpt below is Bartow referring to playing in Freedom Hall. Reassuring. Not.
“Right now, it's honestly a needed change. To get in a different venue, maybe that will change our luck a little bit.”

If that was our floor and the seats were blue, wouldn't be too bad...

RE: Official Game Thread: Samford
Regardless of what happens, this team needs a new coach. I know a lot of people here don't care about the other sports, but most were successful in the past year. Women's basketball is obviously early in the process, but a win over App State on the road and a competitive loss in game 1 at Memphis (it was OT - know we didn't win) is a pretty good improvement. They are coming off their worst season in school history. Of course, so are the men.

Second, looking at that picture of Freedom Hall. Wow. I honestly cannot understand how anyone could even say the Dome is better. However, add in the blue seats and that place will look great. And just think, some of the basics - such as decent bathroom facilities - and maybe more than 2 concession stands being open. Hard to believe that's a dramatic improvement. Someone is going to have to explain to me why it's so much better to be in the dome besides location.

Really, the best part of it to me is that the student seating section is significantly better than the current setup. In fact, they are some of the best seats right behind the home bench, and then some more in the corners. My seats will be a bit worse than in the Dome, but I support the move to give the students the best seats possible.

The location is a huge negative. But yes, if that arena was on campus, it is better than the Dome. But not all that significantly so. Parking will be better and i am assuming that the sounds will be louder. But bathrooms still suck, concourse in the Dome is better than that in Freedom Hall, Dome is just more interesting of a venue, etc.

I'll be there regardless of where we play, even if it's at an outdoor playground. I just want to win, dammit.

what students? none are showing up now with it on campus.
I would bet you that if you added up the students who "had" to
be there, band cheerleaders, dance team workers etc it would out number the ones who came to see it.

RE: Official Game Thread: Samford
You are absolutely right about that Rod. And it will be even worse at Freedom Hall. But if you are going to do the games at Freedom Hall, you at least have to give the students who do show up the best seats. One of the biggest problems in the Dome is the location of the student section- I wouldn't go either and look through the backboard the whole time at ground level.

You could give them the best seats in the house and they still wouldn't come. Winning solves everything.

Fan1 is correct. Why are the students going to come out and watch their team lose?

Samford was a preseason pick to tie Appy State for 4th in the SoCon. Tim Wilson, a 6’8” 210 Sophomore who currently averages 13 ppg and 10.4 rpg, was a preseason All SoCon pick. http://www.soconsports.com/ViewArticle.d...=209284935
They are currently off to a rocky start: 1-3 with losses to Texas Arlington 88-75, #23 Indiana 105-59, and Louisiana Monroe by 86-52. The lone victory was over the mighty Martin Methodist Redhawks, a former junior college now offering some 4 year degrees, 79-62. http://samfordsports.com/schedule.aspx?path=mbball

They run a short rotation, with 5 guys averaging 25 minutes or more , 1 guy getting 21 minutes, and 3 others getting about 10 minutes. http://www.soconsports.com/fls/4000/soco...14/sam.htm
The 6 key guys are Tim Williams (6’8” 210 So., 13.0 ppg, 10.5 rpg), Raijon Kelly (6’4” 175 Jr., 12.0 ppg, 3.3 rpg), Tyler Hood (6’6” 210 Jr., 10.8 ppg, 5.8 rpg), Isaiah Williams (6’1” 160 Fr., 10.0 ppg, 1.3 rpg), Connor Miller (6’4” 170 Jr., 5.3 ppg, 2.3 rpg) and Russell Wilson (5’11” 170 So, 2.5 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 5 assists, 2.3 t.o.’s). The 3 guys averaging about 10 minutes are Brandon Roberts (6’1” 165 Fr., 5.0 ppg, 0.5 rpg), Jordan Capps (6’6” 195 Fr., 3.3 ppg, 3.8 rpg) and UConn transfer Michael Bradley (6’10” 250 Jr., 2.8 ppg and 2.8 rpg)/
http://samfordsports.com/roster.aspx?path=mbball

They don’t shoot well from the perimeter (25-85 for .294) or defend well on the perimeter (23-62 .371). They get outrebounded 43.5 – 35.2. They get outscored 85.2 – 66.2. The size matchup in the guys who actually see the floor is not too bad.

If we can’t beat these guys in a home game… yeesh
