does anyone really care if we beat SAU, Ft. Smith or Grambling? I don't.
In fact, it's going to be difficult to even get excited about a win against these bozos. But what happens if we were to lose one of these game? That would be a real interesting scenario. Would this be Citadel II?03-banghead03-banghead03-banghead03-banghead03-banghead

At this point, I would not rule out a loss against UAFS. They were picked to win their conference.

I'll be happy with any win. Certainly, those schools have a better chance of beating us than we do Florida or Memphis. DII teams often are able to get talented players that don't have the grades for DI basketball.

I am not concerned about Grambling. I am somewhat concerned about Ft. Smith.

UAFS will be a tough game. They only lost to TCU 81-74 in Fort Worth. They are 3-0 in their other games and averaging well over 90 points a game with a high of 116. It is far from an "automatic" win.

OMG. Now we've come to the point where we're ready to make excuses if we lose to Ft. Smith, or a DII team because they can get talented players that don't have the grades for D1 ball? And you say I'm losing it? I'm starting to believe we're living in some sort of parallel universe. Everything seems to be a little off center. Or is it just me? I don't think so. 03-banghead03-banghead03-banghead03-banghead03-banghead

Syracuse lost to DII Lemoyne and went on to win the National Championship that year. Lucky they didn't fire Jim Boeheim after that loss.

We won't shoot this badly the rest of the year. But right now the question mark is whether or not we have a few good shooters in the group or just barely adequate ones.

RE: At this point
I think he had a pretty good resume to fall back on. Had probably made several NCAA tournament appearances and maybe conference championships. Maybe all his players had the flu that night. But probably good they didn't fire him.
I would also assume they were drawing pretty big crowds to their games also. Every situation is different. My point was we were already making excuses in case we lost to a DII school. I don't think the program should be in a situation where we even think we could lose to a DII school at home. Obviously we could, but it's sad we would even consider it.

Leave us not forget that at one point the 85-86 NCAA team was 4-9. Good teams do sometimes start slowly. Not saying this is one of those cases, but the season has just started.

Like you said before we were expected to be 1-2 at this point. Anything better would have been a shock. Only reason we lost to NF was rebounding and we seem to be improving in that area- that can be corrected by coaching and effort. Not much a coach can do about poor shooting. We can cut down our 3 point attempts or we can let them bomb away and hope they start making them. Not sure what the best strategy would be since we don't have any pure shooters. At least, we can hope at this point that Dillard might be our answer.

You have to keep shooting. In today's game you can't win without some 3 pointers. Our shot will come around. That is why you have the D2 games sandwiched in there.

It's not that we've lost the games. It's how poorly we've played. I don't have any doubt we'll end up with another mediocre season. 14 or 15 wins. That's about par for the course. I said we'd probably be 3-7 going into conference play, but I hoped we would look better losing those games. I just wish we had some decent home games. Most pitiful schedule I can recall. Teams like Harding used to be exhibition games. Now they're our only home games OOC. Thankfully we're in a conference or we'd have nothing worth watching.

I thought we played a great game against Florida- for 28 minutes- maybe the best I've seen us play on the road in years. I felt a lot better about this team after watching that game. Middle beat us like they always do in Murphreesboro- no surprise there. I remember a few years back they beat us by 35 points there, and a week later we beat them in Little Rock. I picked us 4th in the Belt this summer, and I've seen nothing that would lower my prediction at this point. The key to the season to me, is the first 2 conference road games in Texas.
We start off with 2 road wins, we will finish 4th or better.
