Speaking of the Owl Club, one of the first things I hope JK does is bring back the Owl Club as a viable organization instead of just a money drop.

I'm pretty sure that page has been around since before RG left. I don't think the rules have changed about SIG donations either (which I understand why they are like that).

RG tried to kill the SIGs by having donations to them not count in your donation level for tickets, benefits, and the like. They still existed but only dollars to the Owl Club counted. Now it appears we are back to counting total athletic donations...it was pretty silly that if you gave $10K to the RBI SIG that it wouldn't count towards Omaha or NCAA ticket priority.

Can you show me where it says that? Because I don't see it on the website.

Here is the original announcement from 2011.

Yes, I saw that. I meant the part about total athletic donations counting instead of just Owl Club.

Conversations with the dept seem to indicate that we are moving back to the policy before 2011. As of yet nothing in writing.

Tennis Recruiting Network lists Rice as the #12 recruiting class in its spring rankings. The class was ranked #9 in the winter rankings.

TennisRecruiting.net will publish the first of its mid-major rankings next week on Monday, June 9th, which Rice should top.

I would love to hear more about specific improvements you have in mind for the Owls Club. I know several of the Owl Club board members quite well and would be happy to pass along any concrete suggestions. (In general, the suggestions should be consistent with the overall purpose of the Owl Club, which is to raise money for Rice Athletics -- but that's a fairly broad mission.) Please feel free to email me at gwebb@alumni.rice.edu or call me at 713-269-5061. Thanks for your help!

Just to expand on that, the end of the article states:
"Only two conferences outside the high majors have ranked recruiting classes. Conference USA has two classes in the rankings: the Rice Owls (No. 12) and Florida International Golden Panthers (17). The Tulane Green Wave check into our rankings at No. 23 for the American Athletic Conference."

Go owls!

The Rice women's tennis program has just finished its most successful three-year run in school history. Prior to 2012, the Owls had never won an NCAA tournament match. Since 2012, Rice has won four NCAA matches - reaching the second round or better each year. They are also fresh off their second straight Conference USA title.

Head coach Elizabeth Schmidt, now in her fifth season at the helm, has two seniors to replace from 2013-14 who were regular contributors in the lineup. Fortunately, she has a talented pair of 5-Star recruits arriving this fall.

Top-30 recruits Lindsey Hodge and Savannah Durkin are players who have shown the ability to win big on the court. Hodge has won USTA national titles as we reported in her commitment announcement this past fall, while Durkin posted twelve wins last summer in the USTA Hardcourt Nationals, Claycourt Nationals, and National Team tournaments.

The Owls edged out Florida International and their trio of international recruits for the top spot. FIU head coach Katarina Petrovic is bringing in Monika Stanikova of Slovakia, Andrea Lazaro Garcia of Spain, and Nerma Caluk of Bosnia to play for the Golden Panthers next fall.

Rounding out the Top 5 are the Tulane Green Wave at No. 3, followed by Stetson and St. Mary's College of California at No. 4 and 5, respectively.
