Most Blazers fans who follow recruiting are disappointed at the decision, but how soon we forget that we are still 1 Top 100 player better off this week than we were last. Haas would have been some major icing on the cake, but we shouldn't allow it to take away from the huge pickup we did get last week. I'm still very pleased with the recruiting Haase has done.

RE: FN Purdue. nm
The recruiting grief process

Step 1. He thinks he is too good for us.

Step 2: he isn't as good as we (he) thinks he is.

Step 3: (still to come) Purdue must have illegally recruited him.

Step 4: Memphis Blazer ever present to point out to us how invalid and stupid our opinions are.

Step 5. Somebody takes a shot at Memphis Blazer, for commenting on their comment.

Step 6. Someone mentions someone taking a shot at Memphis Blazer for commenting on their comment.

And the Blazertalk grieving process continues. 03-lmfao
It's the circle of liiiiiiiiiiife!!!!!

I wish the kid luck in whatever he does.

Some kids just want to go away for college. This may be one of them. Other than being 7'2", I wonder what his basketball skills looked like? Haase likes to run a fast pace and push the ball. I remember seeing a lot of 7 footers struggle with that style of play.........some get winded pretty easily. With that said, I'm still disappointed, I really thought we were going to land him.......I guess the lure of West Lafayette, Indiana was too much :(

I'm not in the least bit upset about this honestly. We still have an amazing class and there is potential to get a couple more good players. Haas was simply going to be that extra birthday present on your birthday. It doesn't change the fact that it is still your birthday 03-razz.

I wish him a lot of success.

Noticed this in comments by Jerry Meyer on Haas:

"During the summer he played about 9 minutes a game for the Alabama Challenge in the Nike EYBL and put up adequate stats for those limited minutes."

Seems unusual for a top 100 player to get so few minutes. The Challenge must have been tough.

RE: FN Purdue. nm
The important takeaway from the Haas recruitment is that a kid seriously considered UAB when he had options in the ACC and Big 10. You win some, you lose some, and you end up winning some you didn't know you won (Squeaky Johnson) and losing some you thought you won (too many to list). But it's important to consistently be in the mix for top-tier recruits with high-major schools. It's all self-perpetuating; the more UAB is on lists that include SEC, ACC and Big 10 schools, the more we'll be perceived as attractive options for top 100 players.

I'm happy with what we got, and I'm happy that what we didn't get was a kid who chose a Big 10 school (probably because he'll be playing Indiana and Michigan State and Ohio State instead of Middle Tennessee and Florida Atlantic and North Texas) and not one that picked Tulane or Southern Miss or even Auburn over UAB. The latter would've hurt; the former is not even remotely surprising.

You'd think our fans would know how to spell our football coach's name by now.

I blame Garrick McGee for tricking me into spelling his name wrong

Totally agree- especially the first and last sentences. It appears more recruits are paying attention to us, and at least as important, they didn't choose some other program either in our conference or existing as a "mid-major."
IMHO, those are indicative of progress off of the court by Coach Haase and his staff.

I have no qualms w/ his decision. He's 18yo & bound to make some mistakes in life. Maybe this is a good one or a bad one only time will tell. I'm happy w/ who we've got coming in as well as who we've currently got.

In terms of play style and game tempo, Purdue is probably better suited to Haas's skillset. He'll have a harder time competing for minutes though.
