Ok we have beat USM to death. So why is LaTech so bad this season.
I thought you all were going to be a lot better than this and you were absolutely destroyed last night. Is it your HC, OC (I hope it's not because of Tony), is it injuries, player depth, overall talent?

They lost the most seniors and lettermen in the country after last season. Then a change in coaching staff with a huge change in style from a spread, wide open style to a plodding, Big Ten style. When Holtz gets his system in place it'll work, but will have a glass ceiling as the rest of college football is leaving him behind. If he can recruit defensive studs like we had at ECU when he was here, you'll do well. Just my opinion from outside looking in.

Skip Holtz is absolutely LOST as a coach. He just walks around with that headset on. Every now and then he'll take it off to hear what one of the Asst coaches is telling the players.
The players know that Holtz doesn't know what he is doing and it has sucked the life out of this team. Holtz claims it is because we lost 32 seniors (really 25 because of medical redshirt returners this year), but we will lose 25 more seniors after this season, so the same tired excuse will be used again. In year 3 we will finally be able to FIRE him and start over with someone who can deliver more than just telling alumni what he knows they want to hear.

They were going to struggle no matter what system they were running this year…There are very few college football teams that can weather losing that many players to graduation.

This post is pure nonsense…They guy has a pretty good overall record and has had success at two programs. To say he does not know what he is doing is a little over the top. It very well could be a talent issue…Why don't you relax a little and see how things go over the next couple of seasons.

Why would you have thought they were going to be a good team this year?? They had no defense last year and won in shoot outs with a senior laden offense. Nothing about that combination would make me think they were going to be a good team this year.

Tech has no QB, that's why he has 2 in this upcoming recruiting class

I don't follow Tech closely but whatever happened to that 17 year old freshman that started against USM in the tropical storm two years ago? I couldn't find him in the program when we played in Ruston this year

If Tech fires Skip before giving him a chance to rebuild "his" team?...It will be a mistake. He knows what he is doing. He literally built the UConn program and then rebuilt the ECU program. USF did not allow him the time it takes to install "his" type of players and schemes. Don't give up on him. I bet my hat that you will see marked improvement next year.

Well, we knew the passing game was going to take a step back since we lost our QB and 2 best WRs. Rookie QBs usually struggle. We knew we had a stud RB, but we had to replace 4 out of 5 linemen. Could they open some holes for him? Who was going to be our new WRs? Can they make some plays?
It turns out the linemen really struggled, the new QB struggled, and the WRs could not make plays. Worst case scenario!
We returned the worst defense in the nation from last year. They have improved statistically, but they are still pretty bad. I think we do have some talent on defense and I think we may have some coaching issues on that side.
Just a classic rebuilding year. A ton of mistakes by kids who don't have much experience.

Nothing like this year though. Next year we just lose a few decent players: IK, Jelly, Cobb, Shepperd... that's about it. A good base is returning: Higgins, Dixon, King, Taylor, Hunter Lee, Liggins, Woods, Barnes, Dora, Butler, Brooks, Pinson, McDonald, Fischer, McPherson. It will basically be the same team next year, just more experienced.

Good as in a least 6 or 7 wins and at least be compeitive. I never thought they would be this bad. Taking a step back or even two yes but not to the point where they are where they are. I never thought they were going to be first year CUSA contenders.

What's funny is that they're really bad and still beat the crap out of us.
FIU is freaking awful....just terrible....and they beat us at home.
There are no words.

When Derek Dooley was coaching from 2007 to 2009, he recruited some good defensive high school players, but he couldn't get much offensive talent.
When Sonny Dykes came in, he loaded up on JUCO offensive talent and won the WAC championship with Dooley's defense in 2011.
Dooley's high school defensive players and Dyke's offensive JUCOs all graduated together leaving Holtz in a total rebuilding mode on both sides of the ball.
Perfect storm!

Graduation. Watch their offense under Peterson. He'll slow it down and play conservative until he has 2 things: a good quarterback, and one that has a little experience. Dont' believe me: See Rakeem Cato's 1st year stats.
They'll be fine in 2 years.

I hope you're right. Some Tech fans are saying Skip is calling all the plays and he won't let Petersen do what he wants to do.
