ECU ranked 32nd in Coach's poll
It's better than no votes I guess.

I'm more impressed the Dukies are ranked. When's the last time that happened?

Good stuff. Congrats to Pirates' fans and the team on this ranking.

Good time to slip into the others receiving votes category. The NC State game if we win will earn us some respect being a BCS school, then a win at at Marshall should likely put us in the top 25.

I think top 25 should be the goal this year and what we return for next year we'd likely start in the top 25 and have a chance to do some nice things.

I think during Steve Spurrier's tenure...

That missed field goal at Tulane has had big consequences for ECU this season….Make that kick and we are probably solidly in the top 25 at this point. Sometimes it is really a game of inches.

Even if you guys win out and beat a ranked opponent in a bowl game this year, you won't be ranked pre-season Top 25 next year.

I just remember when you guys were debating whether you were the best team in NC and left Duke out of the conversation. When it was brought up you just laughed.

I know, our spot will be taken by UAB.

And you are nuts if you really believe that. If we won out and beat a solid bowl opponent we'd likely finish top 15-20ish and we return just about everyone that matters.

This is the 2000 poll where we returned much of the 1999 team that went 9-3 and finished just outside the top 25 and we started that next year 28th in the preseason poll.

http://nationalchamps.net/NCAA/polls/AP_Poll.htm

We went 8-4 and still started the next year 30th

http://www.nationalchamps.net/NCAA/polls...season.htm

There was a lot of respect for Garrard and his class and he's not even close to doing what Carden, Hardy etc are nor did we have anything close to a tandem like that or finish top 25. So you mean to tell me a team that doesn't even finish in the top 25 can start at 28th but a team that would likely finish top 20 and return everyone can't start 25? Whatever. I think as long as we don't completely fall apart we will start around the top 30-35 next year anyway with what we return.

Not I. BTW where is Marshall? Weren't you telling us you were going to do all these big things this year and then how great Ohio was etc. You guys going to move up from your #75 BCS rank 03-shhhh

Sucks that with all that we are still going to beat you, doesn't it? What's amazing is that with your great returning team and our returning team of scrubs we are going to end up with the same record. Weird.

I don't recall. that. Everyone thought UNC was going to be good this year and Dave D. would do a good job at state.

Actually most people thought we'd lose one of two. Everyone also knew Duke was on the rise...

Also I doubt we crack the T25 with if we win over State and Marshall at this point... 10-2 looks nice but I doubt they'd give us a top 25 ranking. MAYBE if we won out, and won all our games convincingly..

Why would Marshall be more difficult for ECU to beat at Marshall than it was for ECU to beat MTSU and UNC at MTSU and UNC? It is not even a question of if MTSU and UNC are better than Marshall, because they both are. Some people have no logic.

I'm glad you think you can see the future Mrs. Cleo but rest assured even if that did happen your 9-3 is still a lot weaker and you NEED us to make your season worth a crap, not the other way around. We've already beat a good North Carolina team that's probably about the best win this conf has, and sadly about the 3rd or 4th best win OOC for CUSA vs ODU as well and should even add NC State to that list next. You didn't do jack for this conference, we should have half the BCS wins this year that you've ever beat in your history, and we are back to doing the heavy lifting around here again. 07-coffee3

It's not even close the caliber of seasons we are having.

This isn't 1999-2000 anymore.

You went 8-5 last year and starting this year where?

I hope you do win out the rest of the year just I can prove you wrong. You won't be ranked preseason Top 25 next year, period.

Really? What has changed in these polling procedures? It's people voting for top 25 teams. If we finish top 15-20 team and return everyone including the most visible stars like Carden and Hardy who will be on all the individual preseason watch list and a year better we almost can't not start the next year top 25 if these same voters are doing their job and a little research. That's how preseason polls work.

Quote:You went 8-5 last year and starting this year where?

We started this year 43rd and we had about a 50 something ranked 8-5 team last year that returned about everyone too. The pollsters expected us to get better. If you finish top 15-20 team and return everyone that's a year older and better their is almost no way we don't start top 25.

Wow, Marshall, who I think is a good team is only ranked 75. Really shows just how little respect this Conf has.

RE: ECU ranked 32nd in Coach's poll
Utah State ended at 11-2 ranked #16 last year, weren't ranked in Preseason Top 25 this year...despite returning 18 starters.

Boise State ended 11-2 ranked #18 last year, weren't ranked in the Preseason Top 25 the this year...despite being the winningest program in the country in the last 16 years.

San Jose State ended 11-2 ranked ranked #21 last year, weren't ranked in the Preseason Top 25 this year.

If you win out this year, you'll probably play a lower-ranked opponent in a bowl (if they are ranked at all), and then if you'll win, you'll be solidly in the Top 25. But there's no way that you'll get voted into the Preseason Top 25 after having a successful season in a weakened C-USA, heading into a stronger football conference.

No, it just shows just how little Marshall has actually accomplished this year. When you are coming off a 5-7 season and then beat up on teams like Gardner Webb, Miami and not much else you don't deserve much respect. How can anyone justify them being higher with loses to Ohio and MTSU and nothing close to a decent win? Where is the substance. If they had some they would be higher. We are the only win that can half make their season respectable.
