Yes. The program is mediocre in FCS....you have to bring in someone who can win. Mickey hasn't won since 2008.
Should've rephrased that...would the AD see any point in firing Mickey? I just have a tough time seeing Bourne call Mickey to his office and tell him it's over.
Everyone here keeps talking about who the next coach is going to be, but I really don't see them firing Mickey with one year left on his contract.

I think he should be removed, but I agree with you. This is JMU we are talking about.
That being said, if Mickey were the HC at Montana, ASU, GSU, or any other school with our resources, he would have been removed last year.

RE: If Mickey is gone
Another issue I have with Mickey is he never seems to embrace a challenge. Whether it be a difficult opponent, bad matchup, FCS away game, tough OOC opponent, and on and on.. he would much make excuses than talk up the team being ready for anything. It's almost like he wants us to expect the worst so when the worst happens.. "See?? I told you so."
We do NOT need that kind of guy at the helm, regardless of moving to FBS or not.

Well if Mickey gets fired that would be an above Bourne decision. That decision would come straight from Alger, albeit Bourne (NOT KING) should have some input. I think this decision will tell us all a lot about Alger and how he expects JMU athletics to fit into the overall JMU Brand. If the largest, best funded program is not held accountable what does that tell us about everything else..........

Are those names likely? No, but Dennis Erickson had to bounce around after his failed stints with the Seahawks and San Fran, and he had much more success at Miami than Schiano ever did at Rutgers. If Schiano does get the ax in Tampa Bay, I could see him landing at a non-BCS school for a few years to rehab his image.

If we are not moving up than JMU could be cheap and let MM finish out the last year of his contract. It would certainly put the program back a few more years from FCS relevance.

Is he any worse than Mickey? I mean, I love Mickey in terms of his personality because he was our guy, but I'd probably loathe him if he was VIllanova or Richmond's coach.

Don't know if he is worse then Mickey. I do think we need a "player's coach" for our next hire.

I'm not sure I could take another Mickey. Enjoyed it in the beginning, but now attitudes like that have started to rub me the wrong way (losing does that).

No, most coaches do that when talking about other opponents, no just MM. You hear coaches all the time, the week prior, even when they are favored, talking about how the other team is the greatest thing since sliced bread, how they are going to so difficult to beat, yada, yada...

Hahah true. I remember Saban going nuts on a reporter last year when he said that WKU was a guaranteed win and wanted to talk about the game the week after. I don't think even WKU's coach could've stuck up for them as well as Saban did.

MAYBE, although unlikely, at a non BCS I-A school, which JMU will not be in 2014. Again JMU has zero chance of getting either or those guys for 2014, and you're delusional if you think JMU does.

Jerry Glanville was hired as the head coach at Portland State after his NFL head coaching days were done. Although he had previously never been a college head coach. I don't think JMU will make a "splash" hire, but you never know.

Here's a name for 'splash'... Doug Williams. Don't know the situation that went down at Grambling or how he did as coach etc...

If Mickey is gone
For comparisons sake. Liberty hired Turner Gill. I have run into him several times here in Lynchburg. Although they are still yet to get in the playoffs Gill brought in to take them to FBS
Had success at Buffalo. Couldn't get it going at Kansas but no one else has been able to either

He's young but his name would carry a lot of weight in this state with recruiting ties. Shane Beamer. Ducking before you guys start throwing rocks at me.

Apropos of nothing (maybe), but the banner ad on the front page is for a lawyer advertising cheap and easy divorces.
