NFL 2013 - Players state by state breakdown
http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/story/20...s-south-ca

I thought I would post an interesting article about the home states of the NFL players.
As you might expect the top 3 are:
1. California - 225
2. Florida - 186
3. Texas - 184

Interesting that at number 6 is New Jersey with 63 which is somewhat of a surprise.
6. New Jersey - 63
8. Pennsylvania - 58
9. South Carolina - 54

I am surprised that Virginia and North Carolina are not higher:
10. Virginia - 50
12. North Carolina - 46

I am not really surprised New York is down at 17.

17. New York - 28

27. Kentucky - 17
This is really not good when you consider that New York is the 3rd most populous state with 20+ million people.

There's a TON of talent in NJ. It just generally doesn't stay there.

This. Only recently have we started keeping some of the better players home. 11 of the 63 NJ players active in the NFL are Rutgers guys. A decade ago we may have had 1 or 2 players tops. NJ is a very key recruiting state.

New Jersey was a key state for Syracuse during the late 90's and early 2000's. It was one of the reasons that Syracuse was so good back then. Recruiting was concentrated on New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Florida. It also helped that Rutgers was horrible during that stretch so many of the best recruits went to Syracuse.

Pitt has seemingly been able to mine quite a bit of talent from New Jersey in the fairly recent past (Dave Wannstedt era). Sometimes I think the players from Jersey aren't ranked as highly as they should be, too.
