RE: It's Official: ECU vs. Marshall will be for the east crown
I could see 100 -150 combined but not 200 yards. This is a top 10 defensive rushing Defense. Watts was the only player all year to run for a 100 against us. Im sure your RBs are pretty good but we have depth and experience this year that we havent always had. Its a totally different defense with rick smith in charge. The pass defense has been getting better each week so our total defense has dropped to top 20.

The thing is, we'll be down 35-7 and continue to run the ball. I'm not saying your defense isn't good, I'm just saying I think UAB will get its yards on the ground. I still think ECU crushes UAB.

are you a player? I've never understood when fans say they're "focused on the next opponent." Has no bearing on whether we win or lose.
It's a mindset. Players have to take it one week at a time and fans should too. Looking forward and talking about what might be only makes fans look stupid when the team ends up laying an egg.
It's also important from a butts in the seat standpoint. If people overlook UAB then attendance will suffer and the entire gameday atmosphere goes downhill. The players need fans in the seats excited about the UAB game, not the one 3 weeks away that most fans won't see in person.

Who will win...Marshall or ECU? I favor ECU if they get some players who are hurt or suspended back for the game. I also favor ECU defense over Marshall offense because the ECU linebackers are very fast so it will be harder for Cato to scramble or run the ball. Cato also likes to stare down his receivers so that will help the secondary. I also like ECU's special teams play to help decide this game. ECU's offense will score some points but like most all games, this game will come down to turnovers, penalties, and special teams play.

If Marshall has the turnovers vs ECU that they had vs Tulsa, that's all she wrote. Should be a really good, hard hitting game.

I honestly have no clue what will happen when we play Marshall….Tough to get a good read on either team with our games coming down the stretch. It is hard to win CUSA games on the road and for that reason I would give the edge to Marshall at home.
Many people will focus on the offenses in this game but I think it will come down to who's defense turns out to be the legit unit. Neither team has really played a dynamic offense like what they will see in this game…Should be interesting to see how it plays out.

Nobody can wait can they? It's only 2 weeks away guys, let's enjoy our remaining games first.
I'm not saying it is the biggest game but this might be the most talked about game I can remember in C-USA here. Before the season even started there were threads about this one and every week since. Admittedly it has been almost all ECU and Marshall fans talking about it but still.
Crazy.

It might be evil of me, but I hope one team blows the other one out just to see a completely butthurt fan base. Like ours constantly is. lol

RE: It's Official: ECU vs. Marshall will be for the east crown
As far as potential goes, I give the nod to Marshall this time. Based on results this year, and even considering the game is at Marshall, I thinks it's going to be ECU. To me Marshall looks like a team that is still a year away from putting it all together. Last night proved they could survive a partial meltdown, but that was against a not very talented team (no offense Tulsa).
ECU has been great against the run, and I think that the secondary is talented enough this year to take the ball away from Cato if the defense can force them to be one dimensional. Marshall's backs should combine for 125 or so, but will they be able to run late in the 3rd or 4th qtr if ECU steps out to a 14-17 point lead?
On the flip side, ECU can't be predictable on offense. I'd like to see them really focus on the run to try to duplicate MT's gameplan against Marshall. If ECU runs for 150+ it should be game over. I'd also like to see a few more slants and crossing patterns instead of so many come-backs in the passing game. Marshall's secondary is good enough to jump those if ECU gets lazy and Riley gets stuck in his little 15 play box. Solid rushing and a varied passing attack is good enough to beat Marshall.
I also like ECU's recent history of finishing the regular season strong. It's a cliché, but ECU has been there and Marshall hasn't. That's the tie-breaker right now in my mind.

Sorry, let me rephrase.
I am not going to predict whether ECU will beat an opponent several weeks away until I see how we do this weekend and then the weekend after this weekend. My thoughts "focusing" on this weekend's game right now and not thinking about things down the road.
Does that make sense?

If all UAB can do is run the ball...It will be a blowout. They must be able to mix it up and keep ECU off balance. Being one dimensional is not going to cut it.

Both teams are very similar...both system offenses. Whoever can get the QB to make mistakes will win. I believe this will be more of a defensive game than many predict. Both defensive teams have practiced against the other teams offense...they do it every day. ECU may be a bit more complex and Marshall throws the ball deep more...but..they are very similar. Turnovers and special teams will decide this game.

These teams are pretty even... ECU has a better D, and the best player on the field is wearing purple. (Hardy)
The game being in Huntington makes it a toss-up, IMO... but I don't think Marshall has nearly the heart ECU does, and it's not like the Marshall crowd is imposing. Pirates win.

I's say Cato is best athlete on the field...but...Hardy is for sure a hell of a player.

I guess I forgot to mention that this is a 2 win UAB team we are talking about. I'm guessing it will be a blow out, but we'll run the ball. So we'll have that going for us.

No way ECU wins at the Joan...no one has ever won there. Its the toughest place in the world to play! Herd could throttle Bama, Oregon and FSU there!!!
JK Marshall fans...just a little fun.
