RE: Your Personal Top Three Football Candidates Ranked in Order and Why
I'm getting closer to my 'final 3':

I'm going to do it thus. I'm not an ideologue on MAC HCs. I look for a very strong resume. Period.

1). Dino Babers HC- E. Illinois. Has an excellent, excellent resume. A coach moving up. Might stay at EIU two years and EMU (or elsewhere) two years before moving to a power conference. That's the rub. Could be the latest 2 years and gone HC in the MAC. P.S. I doubt EMU. IF he wants to move up to FBS he might get better offers. I like the way his career is going. He went from an assistant to FCS HC to ??? (MAC HC????). I like his age. 1984 college graduate. (I'd prefer a coach aged 42 - 52).

2). A former MAC coach who moved up and would like another shot as a MAC HC. Gill, Haywood, (maybe) Cubit, or Beckman, if he loses his job at Illinois. These guys were highly rated as MAC coaches. I doubt they have lost their gray matter.

3). TBD. I'm not ruling out a offensive or defensive coordinator from a conference like the B1G. Apparently, Miami fans think the OSU OC is looking to move up. I'd love to have Chuck Martin who really showed his mettle at GVSU before moving up.

Since my opinion (and apparently everyone else here) doesn't count, that forum EMU Talk (which I never read) says EMU has employed a Gainsville, Fl. search firm to do the coaching search. P.S. that's how it is usually done. It isn't done using input from Internet posters.

They usually serve as kind of a 'head hunter' where coaches can post their resumes, salary and salary requirements, etc. and maybe most importantly what type of position they'd accept (e.g., FBS HC, FBS coordinators, FCS HC, etc. etc.).

I wonder if the coaching search firm does this:

"We represent Eastern Michigan University Athletic Department in their search for a head coach to lead their football program (Division I, Mid-American Conference).

We are soliciting expressions of interest for that position, including your relevant background and salary requirements. Confidentially is ensured."

Determine whom is interested, at what salary level, and probably do a quick resume and character evaluation to narrow the field.

EMU should consider what we write in this forum. Collectively we have a better grasp of what EMU needs than some headhunter.

Hiring a high school because he played at EMU is foolish. On the bright side he cannot be any worse then English.

Or Genyk or Woodruff or Rasnick or Cooper. The likelihood of any coach winning is slim...might as well have someone we know, like, and respect to lead the program.

We might as well close the program down then. To quote Herm Edwards: “We play to win the game!”.

I agree with WolverineEagle: If we aren't going 100% to get a coach to win, don't throw money down the rat hole.

P.S. NO ONE, including BobW himself, takes his suggestion of Ron Adams seriously. I don't EVER remember a h.s. coach becoming a FBS HC. Any other have contrary information or recollection?

Is there a 'tongue in cheek' emoticon??? 03-idea

Gerry Faust from Cincinnati Moeller HS...took over the most hallowed program in America and then did pretty well at Akron.

You guys make it sound like Adams is incompetent...anti-EMU bias? Meanwhile, did Tyrone Wheatley even graduate from U-M?

Anti-high school coach bias, is more like it.

But does anyone in here actually want Wheatley either? I haven't seen anyone mention that they'd like it.

He's in the same boat as Adams to me. Not nearly qualified to be an FBS coach yet.

RE: Your Personal Top Three Football Candidates Ranked in Order and Why
Ok, I’ve tried to wait but now I am ready to list my top coaches for the open EMU Head Coach position:

1# Bill Cubit, OC Illinois to me would be the top guy for me.. Cubit would bring a shorter learning curve because he knows the MAC, he would come here with a chip on his shoulder, to prove that he can coach in this league and win in this league.. I am sure he would love to show everyone that firing him was a huge mistake.

#2 Dino Babers the Head Coach at E. Illinois, if this guy wants to come to EMU, we should rollout the EMU red carpet for him. I believe he could do for EMU what we had expected from English…

#3 Tim Beck, Head Coach at Pittsburg State, I think this guy is a football genius and is one of the up and coming Head coach. I am thinking Beck will not be out there too long because other schools will come offering him $$$$$$ and will probably go somewhere else before we can get to him..

4) Ron Adams is a good assistant coach and should be ready to move to the next level of college football.

5) Mike Haywood (former Miami OH ): I could live with him but I would put a short rope on him and it would be heavy with incentives. I know that he have had success in our conference, but his background bother me. It will be hard for me to allow him a second chance.

Are we speaking of the same Ron Adams?

This one is a h.s. coach who just resigned for "family reasons".

With the complete turnaround he did with the Wyandotte Roosevelt program, why would he leave? Unless...I have a great feeling he may be a finalist for the EMU job! 04-cheers

He cited wanted to spend more time with his family. Understandable. But it's still strange timing considering the EMU job is open.
