AFIU its meaningless for the computers ~ they rejiggered it a while back and went to only taking computer rankings without a MOV component to them.

But I believe the win itself is going to go well, given that computers were liking Ball State and the rest of NIU's schedule more than the rest of Fresno's schedule.

RE: Wednesday night MACtion thread
Since 0-12 is all but a formality at this point for Miami, I think the more interesting question is whether or not we'll score another TD all year. I wish I could say yes.

On the plus side, some people lost money last night in Vegas! With an 18 point lead (spread 18.5), KSU skipped the field goal twice and made it on fourth down, almost got a TD, then fumbled the ball away to ensure Miami won! I'll take what we can get at this point. Our basketball and football teams are a combined 1-22 since early February...

in Ball State's 2 losses they outscored their opponents in the first half 51- 36 but were outscored in the second half 46-3.

Congrats to both teams, a fun game for the fans and both teams obviously play some impressive offense. To me the game was actually closer than the final score would indicate to someone just looking at the numbers the next day.

A question for NIU fans. Does the Husky defense normally give up so many yards?

Pretty much. With our offenses scoring ability, our defensive philosophy is not to give up big plays on D and make opponents go the length of the field on a regular basis. Hence the huge cushions you saw our DBS give the BSU WRs last nigh.

Thanks FT. The Husky offense looks unstoppable......certainly BSU couldn't do anything to shut 'em down. I imagine the best strategy to beat NIU would be a combo of good defense and a ball-control offense to keep NIU's guns on the sidelines.

Best of luck the remainder of the season. I love seeing G-5's challenging the big conferences.

In the unlikely scenario that both NIU and Fresno lose, it would be interesting if they could shuffle the bowl slots a bit so we could see a Huskie-Bulldog matchup in the Poinsettia Bowl. I doubt that'll happen though...

BTW, for the NIU Huskies the singular is spelled Huskie rather than Husky. It's a long story.

We've been playing bend-but-not-break defense for some time. So we give up a lot of yards and it can be frustrating to watch the opponent repeatedly converting 3rd and 5s and even 3rd and 10s.

We have also been a primarily 2nd half time. Our defense tends to give up lots of points and yards in the 1st half then in the 2nd half we magically make adjustments to keep teams from scoring.

Thanks 007, I'll not make that error again on the spelling.

Yeah, the bend-but-not-break defense must be tough on the fans, especially in those close games. Last night I was thinking that your game was going to be one of those whoever-scores-last-wins kinda games.

BTW, I seem to recall the Cajuns playing your team many years in DeKalb on a cold and windy day. If I recall correctly it was an exciting game but you guys sent us packing with an L hanging around our necks.....as do most teams leaving your home field.

Your football teams seem to do well year-in, year-out. Don't know how you manage, but I hope the Cajuns can eventually replicate it.

Good luck bowling. I hope to the Huskies can land another BCS spot.

Thanks - we've been blessed with good coaches (and I do mean coaches, with all the turnover) and 2 very good QBs in a row, gotta have that in the MAC.

I remember playing you guys as well, when you were SW Louisiana. I remember Brian Mitchell in particular as he was hard to stop. We had some good teams and some bad teams back then.

If NIU beat a Brian Mitchell-led team, then you probably beat a good one. We had a good run with him at the QB helm. Exciting ball, he could run, throw, and run & throw....hard to stop as you said. Of course, he went on to perform well in the NFL for both the Redskins and the Eagles.
