RE: Open Thread - Week 12
the Syracuse beat down by Florida state was very expected. Hopefully whigham is ok. Most optimistic orange fans said we would hold them under 50 and maybe score 14 late tds in garbage time. Now the real games start next week where we are back playing teams on our level so hopefully we get back on track to making a bowl game(any bowl game except for Birmingham bowl as that spot is forever reserved for pitt according to the fine print :) )

Just about capacity tonight -- just slightly over 30K. Miami fans represented well tonight and made plenty of noise.

He's stable, he sent out a tweet a couple hours ago, but I doubt he plays football again this season.

Much love to all of my family and friends & Special thanks to #orangenation and the fans you guys are the best, thank you for the support.
For those who don't know what happened; Whigham was guarding FSU's Rashad Greene tightly, Winston hit Greene for a TD (a terrific throw and catch), Jerami Wilkes an SU player came in to try and disrupt the pass, and ran into the left side of Whigham. The three players then landed on top of one another. Whigham began to get up but them fell back down to the ground.
Trainers came over and began attending to him, Whigham was flailing his legs around in what was assumed as pain, but looking back was probably panic. Durell Eskridge walked over took and look then went to his knee and prayed. Whigham had blood pouring out of his mouth from internal bleeding (you can see some blood in the picture below). I give credit to FSU fans, they stood up and cheered for Whigham as he was being carted to the ambulance.

Pretending like you are unbeatable, or any better than SU for that matter, is a little rich. You don't have the talent that we have (although the gap isn't very wide), and you are on the road. For the most part, I think this game will come down to coaching and luck. That said, I would be surprised if you're even the favorites. Erring on the side of being favorable to BC, I would say that the game is a wash at best.

Sure, some of that is coaching, but not all of it, and it's not like BC recruiting has been setting the world on fire. SU annihilated good WVU and UL teams for each of the three years leading up to this. That didn't mean that we were elite any of those years. Close losses mean next to nothing. Lose the arrogance, or it will be a long wait for the next time BC beats SU in a sport that matters.
Good thing to know that everything I say somehow affects the team.
Besides it is mostly the coaching, think Duke got this good recruiting as a bottom 20 team for years? Doubt it, it took a new coach and a new system to right the ship, it just happened 3 years sooner for BC than it did for Duke. Not as good but they got bowl bound quicker.
And talk about arrogance, how many times are you going to say you have the better players? I mean you don't have a QB who's thrown for 1000+ yards and a good TD/Int ratio or a RB who have rushed for 1000+ yards and just set the ACC record for most rushing yards in a game and the year.
But do go on about how a top 10 Syracuse is going to crush a pathetic BC team in basketball. As if nobody knew that was going to happen anyway.....

First you spout out about how a middle of the pack ACC team (at best) is invincible and now you're putting words in my mouth. Show me where I mentioned basketball. Show me where I say you in any way affect the team.
Boston College has wins over Villanova, Wake Forest, Army, Virginia Tech, New Mexico State University, and North Carolina State University. Out of all of those teams, VT is the only team with an argument to be decent, and even they have losses to UMD, BC (obviously), and Duke.
And no, claiming to have better players than BC isn't arrogant. You're BC. Claiming to have better players than FSU, CU, OSU, etc. would be arrogant. Claiming to have more talent than BC is just realistic. Most ACC teams could make that claim right now.
Don't get me wrong, BC could win, but I doubt you will be favored. In fact, if SU beats Pitt, which is pretty close to another toss up in my book, I can almost guarantee you that you won't be favored, let alone heavily favored. You would have to be delusional to think otherwise.

I think BC has more talent then Cuse. And judging from what GT did to Cuse, I would expect BC to roll over Cuse with their power running game.

Our 3rd string QB beat you 21-3 today. Just realized Cuse's time of possession was 41:42. Wow.

I am worried about our CB Julian whigham, I hope he does not need surgery. But this game shows how far behind we are to competing for an ACC football championship.
What was it? Internal bleeding but no surgery? Doesn't seem to add up. I assumed it was some sort of lung/rib/aorta injury prior to Jeannine Edwards slew of worthless "updates". I say all this with the understanding he's been in stable condition since shortly after the injury.

WTF kind of comment is that?
Danny Amendola had a life-threatening injury a few years ago. His career wasn't over. One of FSU's recruits this fall ruptured his stomach during a game and needed emergency surgery. He's already returned to the field.
I'll ask again, what was his injury?

They haven't released it yet...he has had surgeries in the past for an esophageal condition...he came up with blood coming out of his mouth...yeah that is life threatening in my book.

Brah, in the Winston thread on here I believe I'm the only one to actually mention the victim and voice concern for her. I would think, based on your comments, that I should've been the only person to show disdain for her, but I didn't. You come at me as if I wish ill on this kid and have no care at all if his life is traumatically altered. He's just a kid. A kid. I give a lot of people on here sh*t because a lot of people on here are either clowns or make clown comments. You have just made one of them.
And let's clarify something here. You said his career was likely over. I am obviously unaware of his current injury or whatever past condition he may have had or is currently dealing with. I was providing examples of players in recent years who have had serious internal organ injuries who have managed to come back and continue playing the sport. Providing a little optimism that he may actually recover well from whatever this injury was.
