Looks like UL was screwed by the BE (American)
I never heard that Jurich gave notice that UL was leaving the conference prior to the $10 mil exit fee vote. Marinatto and Genshaft pleads with him to not put it in writing yet for fear of a FOIA request showing the American was losing UL. VERY SHADY dealings by UC, UCONN and USF - with Marinatto et al in Providence.

Not only were the new invitees duped in thinking UL was sticking around, UL gets screwed because the BE now "forgot" that UL verbally withdrew and then was begged to not put the paperwork in pending BE (American) moves.

This is heinous and deceitful. All based on greed to squeeze more money out of departing members. Aren't all of those undeserved basketball tournament credits enough? The greed shown by the American is distasteful.

Shame, shame, shame on you "American" conference.

RE: Looks like UL was screwed by the BE (American)
Actually U of L seems to have come out well. They followed proper procedure and kept good notes. By constrast Maryland will lose at least $12 million by lying to the ACC. If Maryland had noticed an exit when the issue of the increased exit fee came up, they would be under the 1.2 x regime not the 3.0 x - a difference of $20 or so million versus the now $60 or so million. Since the ACC will be holding $32 million when UM leaves on June 30, 2014 that $12 million more than if Maryland acted in good faith.

I still don't understand how a school that claims to have said they were leaving in 2011, when Big East Exit Penalties were a $5-million fee and 27-month notice... ends up staying the 27 months and pays $11-million and has an AD on ESPN claiming he's smart and saved the school $4-million bucks by announcing to members and meatball that they were exiting the conference... *shrug* if you really gave your notice and you're as smart as you thought - the $5-million you've already paid, would have been it! just saying!

Problem was probably Lawyers. They don't recognize verbal agreements as binding. IE They don't get paid.

It's all about American greed and them being unethical. The conference begged to not have the notice in writing, UL complied and they get screwed for being the nice guys. No good deed goes unpunished according to the American...

UL has got to be the only conference in realignment that left with some class. Just let it be and stop trying to make something out of nothing.

Schools like Houston, SMU, UCF, ECU, and Memphis were coming to the American with or without Louisville. If there were any bad feelings about this, they were handled by giving the incoming schools a big chunk of the $100+ million in exit fees the Big East had accumulated.

Talk about unethical ... maybe we should rehash the story about how schools said they were committed to the Big East but were secretly in negotiations with the ACC. BC and Pitt = sleaze.

No kidding. When it comes to unethical dealings, Pitt's exit from the BE pretty much takes the cake. Not that anyone really expected anything different.

Those assertions make no sense. However, we see tangible evidence that the American was less than above board with UL. Plus look at all of these exit fees and BB credits being left behind. Legally it is part of the deal but morally I think of Aresco sitting on a pile of gold giggling with glee as the gold spills thru his hands... Terrible.

I am very satisfied with the AAC's behavior and the final outcome. I only wish we could have given Pitt a major screwing.
