No offense but don't count on it happening. Everything I've heard from ECU folks indicates our leadership isn't interested.

With the series record I don't blame them.

If you want to play a team every year, do what you need to do to be in their conference.

That has nothing to do with it. USM isn't in an area in which we recruit athletes or students. Back in the Indy days it made a lot of sense to play USM every year.

Has everything to do with it. They know USM won't suck forever, and want to schedule sure wins.

I don't think our new AD necessarily understands/respects our history.
A buddy of mine who works in the world of college athletics had a chance to sit down with Compher over Homecoming weekend, and the feeling he left with was that Compher isn't very interested in ECU's past... very change-oriented.
Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is yet to be seen. That said, I hope we continue to play USM.

If that were the case, considering the trend, we would continue scheduling you. Going to take a while to climb out of the 0fer hole.

Yea we could use more sure wins. The fan base would love to play yall for the most part. Administration seems to feel differently.
Next year we have an open game. Playing southern miss is not the best of ideas most years especially when you already have SC VT and UNC as your other 3 OOC games. Maybe 5-10 ten years it will all work out.
Potential ECU Schedule next year (first 4 games set, the rest up to American)
1. FCS(will be set Soon) 2.USC 3.VT 4.UNC 5.CINCi 6 Houstin 7.Uconn 8. USF 9.UCF 10. Temple 11. Memphis 12. Tulane
Thats gone be a strong schedule. But in the next few years we only have VT and WV. That be a good year to play USM and one FCS.

This new mindset could be just the shot that we need. So far, I've been impressed with Compher. If we want to "get to the next level" we should not bind ourselves tot he past.
However, I would like to play USM on occasion. I've always liked them...

I tend to agree. If we are going to play VT..WVU..SC..NC..NCSU as OOC opponents?....then obviously we are going to schedule other some more easily winnable games on paper than USM for homecomings that will bring fans. UNCC..ODU..ASU are probably the more logical choices.
I still would like to play an home and home with you guys over a 10 year time frame. I think that may be doable.
I think USM will not have to wait long anyway to get into the AAC. I would want them next if someone bolts.

I'm sure we'd be happy to ruin your homecoming but you'd have to make a return trip to Norfolk.

I'd rather play USM over anything below 1A.

I agree but get used to having an FCS level team on our schedule because it is most likely going to be a yearly event.

Yeah, and I am NOT FOR IT.
Granted, if rumors are true, ODU, App State, and Charlotte in 1-2 years won't technically be 1AA. So those guys would arguably be weak 1A competition for a while and would work better cost/benefit wise over a trip to somewhere else.
But I am not in favor of playing 1AAs.

RE: USM AD wants to continue series with ECU (Video)
A lot of backhanded comments by ECU fans in this thread. I for one would like us to schedule a home and home in the future, especially if we have obvious openings in our schedules which would be patched with FCS teams. Let's not sit here and pretend the AAC is super tough competition like our non conference schedules usually are.

RE: USM AD wants to continue series with ECU (Video)
I think short term USM should work a home and home deal with Tulane since it's a regional game and both schools have a long relationship that goes back decades. ECU might play USM a few times like Louisville did after they left and I'm sure Memphis would be interested as well. Since USM is moving to the West Division and play lots of Texas/Louisiana schools, if I was USM's AD, I would not play any OOC games west of the Mississippi River and focus in scheduling regional or former conference schools like Tulane, Memphis, East Carolina, Cincinnati, Georgia State, South Alabama, etc on a rotating basis.
